I posted this on MySpace but figured someone here may find it useful as well.
I've been downloading videos from Youtube to add to my iPod. You don't have to have an iPod, you could just watch them on your computer or other video capable media player.
1. Go to Youtube, find the video. Copy the URL.
2. Go to http://vixy.net/
3. Paste your URL in the box.
4. Choose your format. For iPod choose mpeg4.
5. When the clip is ready you will be prompted to open or save. Save it!
6. Once it downloads rename it.
7. Open iTunes and add that file.
8. Drag onto you iPod and enjoy.
This is supposed to work with other sites but I haven't checked anything really except Youtube. I suppose when I exhaust Youtube I'll look elsewhere. Well, yeah that's about it. Oh yeah, this site gets a bit overwhelmed sometimes. If it acts weird just come back later.
Obviously if you aren't using the file for an iPod you can skip the part about adding to iTunes and instead just open the file and enjoy.

Re: Download videos from Youtube for your iPod

I'm having trouble putting the videos I downloaded to my ipod. I've followed your steps and for some reason it is not showing up on any libraries, or playlists. Did I miss a step or something? Step 7 says Open itunes and add it, but when I add it, nothing shows up and when I try to drag it to the ipod, nothing happens. Do I need to erase my entire ipod and re-sync it or is there another way? Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks for the tips!

Re: Download videos from Youtube for your iPod

FYI - you can only play videos or movies if you have a ipod video - it doesn't work if it's only a standard ipod (that only plays mp3) or a ipod shuffle.  The ipod videos are 30gb, 40gb. 60gb and 80gb.  I just wanted to make sure that's what you have

Oh yeah, that's a good point. Also do you have an updated version of iTunes? Hopefully it's not a pre-video version of iTunes.

Re: Download videos from Youtube for your iPod

No you don't have to clear your iPod. The movie should be under "Movies". Did you rename it? They give you really long useless names. Another thing would be in the "Movies" section of iTunes go to the top right hand corner and to the left of the search field are three buttons. Underneath the three buttons it says "view." Click the far left button. It reduces the listings to text and makes scrolling through them quicker. Look there for your movie. How many movies did you try to add? Did any of them appear in iTunes? I add them by going to File, add file, and selecting the file I want. If you only did one movie then maybe something happened to that file. If so try again to download it and re-add it. Sorry you had problems.

Re: Download videos from Youtube for your iPod

I tried it with a couple of other sites and it didn't work. But try some and see. I didn't try all the sites. Glad you liked it.

I should add that I've scanned the file the site gives you to download for viruses and Norton's came up with nothing.
