A while back I had to re-downlaod windows xp and my sound didn;t work after that, but I fixed that. Ever since then something has been wrong with my video driver. When I try to play a game I get this error message.

There was an error while initializing your video card.

PLEASE DO NOT FILE THIS ERROR AS A BUG!

Video Driver: Intel(R) G965 Express Chipset Family

Initializing Direct3D...
Your system is reporting that Direct3D hardware acceleration is not available. Please obtain an updated driver from your video card manufacturer.

Initializing OpenGL...
Your system is reporting that OpenGL hardware acceleration is not available. Please obtain an updated driver from your video card manufacturer.

Any ideas on what's wrong or how I can fix this?

Did you totally reformat your hard disk?

 If not then

1) Right Click on My Computer and left click on Properties

2) Left click on Hardware

3) Left Click on Device Manager

4) Double left click on Display adapters

5) right click on Intel G33 Express ChipSet ChipSet  (or simular name) and left click on properties

6) Left click on "driver" tab

7) left click on update driver buttong

8 ) Let the manager automatically look for software and click on next button

With any luck the computer should find the last(newest) driver you were using and install it

If not, then you will need to go to the Dell site and search for the newest driver which is 7.14.10.1322 and was released on 8/27/07

It should also be noted that Directx's, Flash Player's, and Java's current version also have to be re-installed every time you re-install Windows.

A game that doesn't start or does start but runs really slow is a sign that Directx is out of date.

In fact you may want to check to make sure you have Directx 9.0 installed before updating the Video Driver, and the current Flash Player if the game is flash based (and/or Java if game is Java based)

Re: Problem with video driver?

When I download that updated driver (7.14.10.1322), it says "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the Computers manufacturer. Setup will exit." The current driver I have is Intel (R) G965 Express chipset family, and the number under the driver in properties is 6.14.10.4704, so clearly it's out of date. Also, in my device manager, it has the Intel (R) G965 Express chipset family twice, once with a yellow exclamation point, if this means anything. Any ideas on how to be able to download the new driver?

Re: Problem with video driver?

Sometimes if theres multiple installations of the same hardware it can cause conflicts... (this is especially true with networking), You said that there are two chipsets installed showing in your device manager, you might want to uninstall one of them by right clicking it in the device manager and selecting uninstall...

Even if it does not solve the problem it will at least eliminate a potential one...

Re: Problem with video driver?

then go to the dell website, under service, and type in the express service code 17597440945 you listed. it will bring up all of the drivers for that computer. then, select the integrated graphics driver update.

Re: Problem with video driver?

Those are Motherboard drivers that you should update. You will find the drivers on the site where you bought computer from or from the MB vendor.
