Windows Vista / Office 2007 - Advanced excel settings

Windows Vista / Office 2007 - Advanced excel settings

I recently switched from Windows XP / Office 2003 suite to Vista / Office 2007. Although I'm fairly comfortable with the functionality of most of the applications in the 2007 suite, I am noticing that there is one feature (which I will need for advanced formatting in excel)that doesn't seem to be available in the 2007 version of excel.

I need to add to my quick access bar a drop down list of all formatting styles that are in use in the current document.

I managed to add the feature in Word withouth a problem but for some reason am unable to find it in Excel.

Could anyone help me out with this?

I've got Office 2007 and on my Excel 2007, I have found that anything I needed to put in the Quick Access Toolbar, I have done by right-clicking on the item where it is and if it can be put up there, there's an option in the popout menu to add to the toolbar.  If there's no right-click option on what you need to put there, I don't know of a way.

I have office 2007 so I looked and all of the formate styles are on the home tab under "styles".  From there  you have 3 drop down menus:

1. Conditional Formatting

2. Format as a table

3. Cell Style

each of the 3 has many options.

I found this site a while back that really went into detail with the different formats for excel office 2007 and how to use them:

How do I… Use pre-built style features to format Excel 2007?

Its complete with all types of pretty pictures to explain Laughing

Also I dont know if you have any issues with outlook since getting office 2007 but I had many issues.  My spell check would no longer work in English and only would spell check in French.  Go figure it had to do with Office 2007.  I did a thread on it a while back and the fix to it:

 Outlook stuck in French

It was easy to fix but the whole problem had to do with office 2007!

Re: Windows Vista / Office 2007 - Advanced excel settings

That is a setting within Word and Excel, not a function of Vista.

In Word, go to the TOOLS menu, choose CUSTOMIZE, then in the OPTIONS tab, click the box for "always show full menus".

Same for Excel.

Did you try right clicking on an existing tool bar and selecting customize?

If I'm reading your ? right that should get you what you're looking for.

Re: Windows Vista / Office 2007 - Advanced excel settings

I've looked at every option available and am unable to locate that one function where I can actually add the Style Drop Down Menu.

Adding new quick access functions and customizing it is not the issue, rather it is locating the one that I need that is the problem.

(Thanks for your quick reply btw!)

Double check and make sure it's not hiding from ya. I'm got Excel 2003 and I'm finding the Style drop down menu under the Format category. It's the 5th command down on mine.

You're more then welcome :D

2007 doesn't have a "tools" menu. I'm about to stab myself in the eye with a blunt object.

I'll have to keep fiddling with it and see if I can't get lucky. ;O)

Thanks again!!

Re: Windows Vista / Office 2007 - Advanced excel settings

Having never seen the 2007 version I think I'm a bit confused. I was assuming it had the same look and feel Excel has always had, but now I'm guessing they've changed the interface somehow. I did a Googled "excel 2007 menus" (without quotes) and a lot of the results are about how to view classic excel menus. So I've probably been telling you how to do what you already new *lol* not realizing 2007 is different then previous versions.

Without a copy of the new upgrade to play around with I'm afraid I won't be able to help. Hopefully another GuGer will hit this and know what to do. But if not Google will probably be your best friend today. Looks like lots of people are having simular issues. Give this a read hopefully it will help.
