I made a large movie with a slideshow of pictures, but I can't save it all at once because of the temp file it makes when it's saving.

I have ~1GB left on my main drive and when I try to save my movie file, Windows Movie Maker makes a huge temp file on the drive which takes up all the space until it says I have no memory left on my computer.

Is there a way I can change where the temp file is stored? Or are there any other solutions? Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Windows Movie Maker ...?

So you have a movie all made up ready to be saved, but during the saving process a Movie Maker creates a temporary file for whatever reason. This temporary file is used only during the saving process and once the movie file is actually created then the temporary file is no longer needed right?

What about if you were to break your movie up into sections? Say cut it in half. And try and safe one 1/2. If the temp file is still too big then break a 1/2 in 1/2 and try again. Keep doing so until the files small enough to safe. Then delete the temp file and try saving the other sections. Once every section is saved you can create a playlist and have them run back to back?

I don't use WMM enough to even know if that'll work, but it may be worth a shot. I deffenetly suggest you look into an external hard drive though. Or a good size flash drive at least. You can goto Walmart and get a good size flash say 2Gb to 8Gb for pretty cheap. $20 - $40. Or an external HD around 80GB for around $100 I think. I've got a HUGE electronics store close by where I got a 316GB no name external hard drive for around $150 about a year ago. I love the thing. Then I got a 2GB, soon to get a 8GB, flash drive that I can wear around my neck for taking a movie or two to a friends or what not.

.:looks over a removable hardrive:.

yes, i think its best if you just start to move your media files (large documents, movies, music, pictures etc.) from you computer to other removable storage. Most (if not all) files are completely safe and its just like having them saved on your computer, except for the fact that it does not take up space.

I recommend the removable hard drives, not cds. The reason I say this is because most cds get scratched if not taken care of properly, and data is completely lost. In comparison to removable drives, it is safer. Of course you have to be careful with the non-flash drives, meaning the bigger ones that dont fit around your neck on a string. In that particular scenario you would buy a case for it.. problem solved.

I could suggest something like a the WD 120gb removable drive. works great for me and I can carry all of my *anime* in there without a problem (except theres so much anime im thinking of getting another 2).

It is also not that expensive ( about $100 online), considering the amount of space you are getting, without having to permanently add the space to your comp, or install any more hardware or pay someone to do it for you.

I have both the flash drive, and external drive. THey both work great and I havent had a problem with it all.

If you want anymore suggestions or have anymore qestions just let me know.

Re: Windows Movie Maker ...?

Hi,
I'm a big fan of WMM myself. Do you have to put your movie on your pc? could you put it on some kind of removable storage. Like a dvd for example?
