I am: The girl your mother warned you about

I'll start with things Ozzie has in his favor. He has 10 platinum albums, between Black Sabbath and solo albums. That is indeed an amazing feat not to be taken lightly. Sabbath has also been a major influence on Rob Zombie. Then again, what metal band hasn't been influenced by them/him? The same could be said of Judas Priest as well though.

Rob Zombie has had 8 albums both with White Zombie and solo albums (not including compilations, greatest hits, etc) and of those 8, 5 have gone platinum and 2 have gone gold, making him the artist with the most platinum/gold records on the Geffen record label (courtesy of geffen records website, i looked it up!)

Ozzie has his lovely reality show- The Osbourne's.      .yay.

Rob Zombie has written, directed and produced 3 full length films (House of 1000 corpses, Devil's Rejects, and soon-to-be-released el Superbeasto...oh, did I mention he writes a comic book series too?) In addition, he also created a re-make of Halloween and an interlude in Tarantino's grindhouse films.

Two words: The Zombettes

Rob Zombie got to 'take over' youtube for 4 hours on halloween this year. They called him a 'stint director.'

Like they'd let Ozzie be in charge of...well...anything?

And on something of a final note, Ozzie performed near me not long ago. Small venue, great (super expensive)seats, I was pumped. Don't get me wrong, I do like Ozzie; he just needs to retire. Yesterday. Anyways, he sang his first song and it was awesome. Except he forgot half the chorus. Second song, voice started getting very shaky and weak. Third song, he stopped singing about 2 minutes into it. Zakk Wylde took over the lyrics (he was on tour with him) Ok. Black Label Society is awesome. Love em. Wouldn't have paid $200 a seat to see them. The entire rest of the concert was performed with Zakk Wylde on lead vocals for Sabbath. No refunds available. You could say I'm slightly bitter, and you would be right. Except that Rob Zombie opened the stage for Ozzie, and I actually paid all that money to see him

For those interested, here's a link to Ozzie's official website and you can check out the few comments that reflect my sentiments as to Ozzie's poor performance.

Yes, he still puts on a killer show (thanks stage managers!) but a rock show isn't much without the rockstar.

Re: Why Rob Zombie rocks and Ozzie....does not

Okay, I know I am a little late in posting my part of this discussion, please excuse my tardiness...

When I was in grade school, middle school, and high school (I grew up with the same kids throughout the years since I'm from a small town) my class always did our own thing.  We marched to the beat of Ozzy, GNR, Metallica, etc...  When people hear that our prom theme song was "Old L.A. Tonight" by Ozzy or that our graduation theme song was "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns 'n Roses they think I am a lot older.  Nope.  The boys in my class just got into these bands young (I can remember seeing them wear these band shirts as far back as fourth grade) and held on to them.  So anytime we did anything as a class this is what we listened to, nothing that was top 40 or anything.  Nope.  Even though that's what a lot of the girls seemed to want, the boys always won out in the end, even though there were more girls.  I'm thankful for this since it has broadened my musical background. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Ozzy and GNR (not such a fan of Metallica).

BUT I discovered Rob Zombie on my own.  I'm surprised that my classmates didn't listen to him.  I love Rob Zombie, he's so creative and seems so mysterious, to me, anyway.  We got to see Ozzy's life, inside and out, on tv.  But Rob Zombie is so alluring!

So, while I have a tender spot for Ozzy, I'd choose Rob Zombie, anytime any day.  Great post Almost Evil!

im not really a fan of either one of them. but there are songs that i like from both of the artists: i like a few of ozzies songs and a few from robzombie.

but if i had to pick..i would say..neither. just kidding.

they do have talent though.

And let's not forget Rob Zombie did the song that gets me ready for the day every morning... The opening to the Howard Stern Show "The Great American Nightmare". Yeah yeah yeah, I'm one of "those" people that love him. Not sure what it is, but i do. He's a great interviewer!

Out of the two artist, i would have to go with rob zombie as my favorite.  I have all of ozzie and zombies stuff and i find myself listening to more of zombie.  I know a lot of people complain that zombies songs sound alike or have a lot of techno style to them.  I just think its a personal style choice myself, Songs like "Dragula" and "Living Dead Girl" to me are just awesome songs.  Interesting side note, on the album The Sinister Urge, Ozzy does guest vocals for the song "Iron Head"

Re: Why Rob Zombie rocks and Ozzie....does not

Well I can't say much about Rob Zombie since I have no clue who he is (yes I live in a closet - LOL) but Ozzie I do know. I had a head banging little brother. I never liked Ozzie until his reality tv show. I was so hooked on that d@mn family. Just when I thought they couldn't get anymore F**ked up they did. What a wacko family but it did amuse the hell out of me.

or how about the fact that years of all of those drugs fried his brains - hell he's lucky he's walking and breathing!

Re: Why Rob Zombie rocks and Ozzie....does not

I think Rob Zombie was better with White Zombie than as a solo act. It seems to me he got a little lazy after a while, all the songs are too similar, and a lot of them are too "techno-ish". His first solo album was great. But it was kinda downhill from there. There wasn't a bad song in the 2 White Zombie albums. (I'm not counting the early limited-releases, like "Make Them Die Slowly") But I find myself only really liking half or so of the latest stuff. It's probably cause he's too busy making movies and writing comics. So there's no doubt he's got talent, and is spreading himself across the spectrum. Maybe he's just a little distracted...

Ozzy was the man, Black Sabbath is awesome only with Ozzy, but that was 30 years ago. He should stop embarrassing himself and go lie down for a nap or something. Solo Ozzy has some great songs, but even then, Black Sabbath was better. Kinda like Rob Zombie...

Re: Why Rob Zombie rocks and Ozzie....does not

I swore an oath many years ago that forbids me from saying anything bad about  My Dark Lord, er I mean Ozzy. Yeah that's what I meant, Ozzy. Maybe it's my age speaking but I don't care for Rob Zombie at all. I never liked any of his music. His movies are over the top brutal which, as much as I liked that, I think didn't require that much talent. His remake of Halloween is his best effort yet. I will give him credit for that.

Yes Ozzy should retire. He's like 4 million years old. But call me when you've done battle against the forces of good for that long and we'll see how you've faired. Just kidding. He should give it up. He's got early Parkinson's or something. The man can barely speak these days. He doesn't walk he shuffles.

Now to be fair you should compare Ozzy of old against Rob Zombie otherwise it's apples and oranges. Ozzy in his prime is unequaled.

Ozzy. Without question. I agree he is getting up there in age, but his voice is amazing and unmistakably unique. I can't think of any other metal/hair band era vocalists that have ever been mistaken for him. Whenever the OzzFest circuit tours AZ (July 07), always a solid sellout. I hear he is planning on headlining the 2008 OzzFest and is in talks to do another Black Sabbath album - - which means a long awaited tour! I'm sure there are many years of rock ballads and head banging worthy music to come!
