funnily (spelled wrong i know) the paperwork what came with the laptop -did not say "do not suck water out of laptop while still plugged in" anywhere. maybe if it had - she would not have attempted it. lol - i can laugh now, but quite serious really. ps she is 14 and really intelligent - usually -she just panicked

MY DAUGHTERS JUST TOLD ME THAT WHEN SHE SPILT THE WATER ON THE LAPTOP SHE IMMEDIATLY TRIED TO SUCK IT OUT FROM THE KEYS - STILL PLUGGED IN!!!! I COULD HAVE LOST MY DAUGHTER NEVER MIND A POXY LAPTOP!!! I KNOW IT SEEMS OBVIOUS BUT I THINK EVERY ONE SHOULD GO TELL YOUR KIDS WHAT NOT TO DO IN THIS SITUATION. I KNOW IM SHOUTING BUT I CANT BELIEVE SHE ACTUALLY DID THIS AND IS OK. THANK YOU GOD. PLEASE ALL OF YOU WARN YOUR KIDS. THEY PANIC IN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS AND ALL SENSE GOES OUT OF THE WINDOW.

i would like to say a very big thanks to pat and lynne for their help with the disaster regarding my daughters spill on my laptop last night. their advice was prompt and their help has saved me £400. i am happy to say that after following the instructions on the link pat found for me above (or below?). the laptop is now up and running perfectly today. in fact i am using it right now. i really thought it was the end for this laptop so many thanks and kind regards to both and to everyone else on gug who put themselfs out to help complete strangers. this is the best site i ever found on the whole of the internet. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx this is why --

thanks for that pat, pat to my rescue yet again, also a big thanks to lynne too. i have followed instructions up to the bit what says removing the keys - thats as far as i would dare to go. i wouldn't even dare attempt to get inside and definatley would not know how to remove the hard drive - or even open the laptop up. if it was a tower id do it like a shot iv practically taken mine to bits just poking about - i even replaced my own hard drive!!! which is a great accomplishment for a women like myself. i followed instructions on different threads on gug. i will now wait the mentioned 24 hours and i will let you all know how i go on. thanks very much to you both for your help with this. it is much appreciated x

Good find! Better than what I found. I saved it. I saw one that was telling you how to take apart your laptop, but didn't pay attention to it, because they are all different...(right?). I like this one much better.

I wish I knew exactly what to tell you. Someone will be along soon. I spilled some on mine once and I immediately turned it upside down and it was okay. A client of mine spilled a glass of something on his, and he lost it all. I'm so sorry this happened. 400 pounds is too much money to lose to a glass of water! I don't think I'd be turning it on until it was completely dried out though.

i have tried turning it on with 3 power leads (all working) and two batteries(both working) - none did the job, i cant believe this - my daughter bag got stolen by a sneak in thief on xmas day(with all her xmas present - which was money! -then in january my foster sons motor scooter was stolen and burnt out and now this. the worst thing is because the insurance didnt pay out at xmas- silly me has cancelled the insurance!!! this year so far is a washout. i feel like the voice of doom!!
