Vista Internet Connection Issues

A girlfriend of mine needs some Vista assistance. She recently upgraded her computer to Vista Ultimate. An update was auto-installed and ever since the update she has lost access to virtually ALL websites. She has an active internet connection and can connect to a select FEW sites- nothing exciting, yahoo.com, aol.com, and ucdavis.edu

All other websites indicate there is no internet connection. We've tested all her settings. She can ping IPs and the ping is returned normally, but going to those same sites in both Firefox and IE is fruitless.

She disbaled TCP/Iv6 which didnt help. Her router is vista compatible, and shes able to use messengers on the PC no problem. Its just accessing websites thats not working.

Any input would be SUPER appreciated. She has finals next week and really needs internet/website access!

It appears a recent update to vista is/was corrupt. Shes doing a system restore, so hopefully that will help!

I'll pass along your suggestion too hubby, thanks.

can you get to a website by IP instead of name? since you can ping the address, presumably you can also get to the webpage by IP (i.e. http://72.14.207.99 ) .. if you can get to it by IP but not by name, that would point to problems with your DNS settings.
