Just curious who has ever gone to Myrtle Beach, Gulf Shores, or any of the surrounding beaches around Destin.

We're trying to plan vacation..... have heard of Santa Rosa in Florida.....

Anyone know good places to go? Good prices and stuff on places to stay?

Or, any other idea for a good vacation spot!?

I have never been to Siesta Key, FL but always wanted to go after reading about the sand one day:

A team of scientists from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution 
judged the sugary powder at Siesta Key to be the “finest, whitest 
sand in the world” during the “Great International White Sand Beach 
Challenge”, a title that still stands today. The scientists studied 
samples from more than 30 beaches around the world and declared 
Siesta’s sand was made of 99% pure quartz.  
Unlike most beaches that are made of crushed shells, rocks or lava, 
this sand is pure white, and as fine as sugar. The ultra-fine 
texture and dazzling reflectivity allows the sand to remain cool 
underfoot, even during the hottest time of day.

 

 Anyone know of it or been there?

Siesta Key is nice, and I've noticed the best "eye candy" there in the past. I don't make it up there really, its like an hour or more north of me. But Sarasota is a decent sized city, theres gonna be plenty of other stuff to do as well. I know a couple good pubs there...

I've been there many times. Yes beautiful beaches and yes ultra fine white sand. Here is the only thing I hate about ultra fine white sand: Picture yourself on the beach, sunscreen on (or oil), nice breeze of wind - woo la you are now covered head to toe with the beautiful white ultra fine blows in the wind sand...ugh

I'll still take the FL Keys anyday.

OK so now I have dissed on Devils coast (see he is a FL west coast gugie and I'm a FL east coast gugie).

If you really want the west coast of FL for the white sand I would go to Sanibel or Captiva

That's in the panhandle, pretty far from where I am in FL. It's geographically closer to New Orleans, to give anyone who doesn't know FL an idea...

I've never been out that way. Maybe some other FL-based GuGiers will have something for you.

Well, as a kid, we vacationed in Gulf Shores and Destin a lot! 

Myrtle Beach is in Virginia......anyone in VA?

I'm confused, so what was the actual location for the original question???

I saw something about Destin in FL, and then 2na mentioned FL, so I Google mapped Destin FL to get a good idea of where it was in relation to me, cause I had heard of it but wasn't sure where it was...

So are you vacationing in FL or VA or SC? May help to get you the answers you're looking for...

LOL..... actually I was hoping for insight on all of the locations! We've thrown so many ideas around, but are unfamiliar with the areas. Well, except Destin. It's not too far from Alabama, it's maybe an hour from Gulf Shores Alabama. However, there are tons of beach areas around Destin that I'm interested in.

Here's something else....

We've thought of Kentucky!

The Kentucky Down Under is awesome! Went a couple years ago. Want to take the kids to the zoo there, and to the Louisville Slugger museum.

Soooooo......basically what I was asking, just was who knows about any/all of these places? Who has some good ideas about accomodations, eating places, fun...etc.....

anyone been to Destin FL, or the surrounding areas, Myrtle Beach, or KY?

Or does anyone have great vacation experiences in other places?

Ok well I'm a FL gugie and like devil somewhat confused to where you want to go.  However if you are looking for great beaches there is nothing like the FL keys.  You can walk out in the ocean for hundreds of feet and its only knee deep - also crystal clear water.  I love the keys.  I see you have a little one - if you do consider the keys a great place to go to is Hawks Cay Resort.  They have so much to do for the kids, everything from a cool pirate ship they can climb on (in the water with water cannons) to a gorgeous lagoon and they can even go in the water with the dolphins.  We go to hawks cay alot and we love it there.  If your interested in that place I can post some of OUR pictures.  We go there generally 2 or 3 times a year thats how much we love it there.

Right here:

 

Oh Hawks Cay Resort (in case your interested) is right above Marathon, one hour south of Miami...mile marker 61 (how bad is that I know the mile marker). You will find most things in the keys is done by mile marker since for the most part there is one road in and one road out.

The Keys are a chain of islands at the southern tip of the state. I went a lot as a kid, they are very nice.
