I was doing a search recently to see if my ex-gf had a MySpace account and I searched by the e-mail address I had for her. It didn't come up with something and, while I was on the results page that said, "Sorry we weren't able to find xxx@xxx.com on MySpace.com", I somehow accidentally clicked once too many and the Invite button was clicked and an e-mail was sent!

If you aren't familiar with how this works, if she decides to join via that e-mail account, she automatically gets added to my friends list!

I didn't want her to know of my MySpace account and moreover, definitely didn't want her on my friends list!

Now, I don't know what to do. I can't block her (I don't think) since she hasn't registered (yet). And deleting the invite only deletes it from my "past invites" list and not revoking the invite itself.

So, what I'm getting at is this - is there anyway to block her if she does end up joining (before she gains access via my friends list) or is my only option to delete my account and start anew?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

I did this same stupid thing last night. Accidentally sent an invite to someone who already has an account...

Don't ya just hate it when that happens . . . (See I can say that cause I do that kind of stuff ALL the time). Being sneaky requires SO MUCH effort!

I'm really glad that worked! I just hated the thought of you having to delete your whole profile and start over Eye-wink.

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

Are you POSITIVE that deleting the invite doesn't remove it from them as well? The reason I ask is that I had a friend invite that I didn't accept for several weeks and then one day it just went away. I assumed they had deleted the invite. I verified that their profile does still exist. Why not do an invite for an account you can set up as a dummy. Delete the invite; set up the bogus account and see what happens to check the theory. You could also do another invite AFTER you set up the dummy account and once you see the invitation don't accept it yet. Delete it from your real one to see what happens. I have a dummy account that I use to try out new codes and such. I figure if I'm going to mess up a profile, I'd rather do it that way than on my real one. It wouldn't require much effort and might save you from having to delete your profile and starting over. Hope this helps. Smiling

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

Wow - Dream Girl, you got it! I just tested your suggestion and it ended up like this...

Sent two invites to two old e-mail accounts that I have.
Before signing up for the first one, I deleted the invite from the 'invite history' listing and sure enough, when I completed registration, only "Tom" was my friend. I looked up the old MySpace account I've been writing about and it displayed to me as "private".

Other invite was left up in 'invite history', completed registration and had 2 friends - the account that invited and "Tom".

Awesome. Thanks to everyone who worked with me on this. I appreciate the help in "talking it out" with me. Smiling

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

Oh, no way.  I got an accidental invite once from my husband's ex.  If I had only known that I would then be added to her friends list (she has a private profile) I would have accepted it in a second.  Lost opportunities suck.

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

Yeah. I found that out because I sent myself a test invite at one of my alternate (non-MySpace) e-mail accounts and it says so right within the invite.

"Join MySpace and you will instantly be connected to x, and to each of x's friends."

Sad

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

If it's that important and you don't have much to lose, then the only sure-fire way is to delete your account.

We all have exes and we all goof. I totally understand! Let's hope IF she joins, she'll use her primary email account then instead! =)

I've searched for exes too and almost did the same thing you did. They should do a confirmation screen (ie "Are you sure you want to invite this person?") for something like that. Seriously. Tom clearly has no exes he looks for. Ha.

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

I wonder how sites like myspace affect people psychologically, as far as healing from broken relationships. Is it better to retain something of a connection to a person for a sense of gradual closure (they still exist, you still exist, life goes on, feelings fade) or was it easier to move on when the person we broke with wasn't a presence in our life at all? When I look at the pages of exes/friends I've fallen out with, I feel like I'm being masochistic. I still do it, of course, but I wonder if it's good for me in the long run, and how it will affect my generation in their serious relationships and marriages.

I really don't know where I'm going with this, just wondering if anyone else thinks about these things.

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

I can relate to what you are saying. The person I've been talking about with this accidental invite was an ex from SEVEN years ago.

It wasn't really even a break-up in the regular sense, but more like a gradual fading of contact and such. (it was a long-distance thing)

But, I have looked up people from HS and College that I either dated or had a thing for. Ha ha.

Not letting go of things in the past is definitely a weakness in my personal profile. Ugh!

Yep, you definitely understand. Smiling

Much agreed on the confirmation-type screen. Thanks again for the replies!

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

Just keep tabs on your friends list. If you have a lot, the order under "View all Friends" and "Edit Friends" is by member number (join date). So when your friends list count goes up, check who's at the end. Deleting the invite from the list wasn't a great idea since that would show you whether or not she joined using the email addy you sent the invite to.

If she's never used myspace before, there's a good chance she'll be too overwhelmed to peruse your friends list right at the start.

Or set your profile to private, so that she would actually have to sign up WITH the email you sent the invite to in order to instantly become a "friend". Since many people don't use their primary email addy for myspace, she might not either.

Otherwise, there's no way to block her before she signs up.

Re: Accidental Invite - How to Reverse?

Thanks for the reply. Smiling

Actually, I did keep the invite so I can see her status as "Not Joined" - I was just saying that I know deleting it wouldn't pull back the invite that was sent.

My profile is set to private, so yeah, my only worry is that she accepts the invite and gets into my profile that way. It was also a Hotmail account, so probably not her primary account.

Unless someone can advise otherwise, I'm thinking I might either have to risk it and keep tabs on my friends list number or delete my account and start over again under a new account.
