Trackers/IP question

Trackers/IP question

Hey

Well I am new to this world of tracking on myspace. Reccently I signed up to mixmap.its great.no problems there. But I have read that you can get trackers that give you more detail apart from IP. Like which page they came from, emails etc.... Which ones are they? Are they free? if not what are costs involed ?

I was on webstat but myspace squashed that got the dreaed dots & it didnt start up. like it did previously when I had it on there. The code changed after I installed.

Also a question about IP tracing. Whats the best site to trace an ip address? It only tracers back to there server not where they are ?

One of the numbers I am tracking comes from 3 different parts of town under the same IP on usdl. how does that work ?

thanks for answers in advance.

Re: Trackers/IP question

HELP!

I need to find the IP address of a hi5.com user. Is there any way to hack into the account and track down the IP address? Could someone help me please?

Re: Trackers/IP question

I'm not sure how hi5 is but if you can add a tracker you could easily get the IP address.  Here is a thread that will show you the different trackers out there:  What a tracker really shows

Re: Trackers/IP question
Thanks Devil and MG4L for clarifying this for me. I see I was once again getting paranoid over nothing. LOL.

Re: Trackers/IP question

does anyone know anything about satellite providers and how they work on trackspace?

Re: Trackers/IP question

Just like any other internet provider - it tracks them too,  Most trackers are cookie stealers so they are able to track you regardless if your internet provider is  giving you a static or dynamic IP.

Re: Trackers/IP question

How would i know if i have a dynamic or a static IP ?

static (same IP # every time ) IP's are limited so there is normally an extra charge to have one, yes you can have a static IP changed but its like changing your phone number they charge you for that too.

the dynamic IP is when the ISP just provides you with an IP from its pool because IP's are not limitless.

Re: Trackers/IP question
Devil, I didn't notice the FL location when I looked it up on maxmind (can't look it up again at the moment...MM keeps getting my reaching the query limit wrong...need to clean the cache and cookies I guess)

Anyway...I guess what's weird to me, more than the different locations to which this IP is assigned, is that DNSStuff calls it a possible forgery and maxmind relates it to a organization called "Under Armour Performance Apparel." Don't know why, but that name and the DNSStuff description make me uncomfortable...

I ran it thru Maxmind and got the same as Devil.  I then ran it thru Network-tools and it also came up as Bell South:

65.11.93.96 is from United States(US) in region North America

whois query for 65.11.93.96...

Re: Trackers/IP question
Thanks Smartmom. I wish I knew how to post a shot of the DNSStuff info I found here to show all of you what triggered my paranoid reaction. LOL.

But anyway; it doesn't matter anymore. The consensus is that the IP is not a "suspected forgery" and the Under Armour people are legit. So, cool! Smiling

Sending IP trackers in Myspace messages

Question: How do you send a tracker in a comment or message to someone on myspace? And what would it track?

Can you track what profiles they view? Or who they send messages to?

Or does it just track them when they visit my own page?

TIA!

here is some more additional information, click.....here.

Like the other members said, all the info about trackers is in the GuG threads Smiling

I see that you have access to the restricted area--thats where a special "goodie" is for the members who have access...

...It is one of the best trackers available..

Re: Sending IP trackers in Myspace messages

sugarfly , here is a direct link to a great tracker thread that will get you started in that direction:

Re: Sending IP trackers in Myspace messages

Hi sugarfly!

Actually, there's a whole forum section on myspace trackers. Go to FORUM then scroll down to where it reads "Myspace" and under that you'll find the subsection "Myspace Trackers"!!!Surprised

There, you will find tons of discussion about myspace trackers. Not only those for profiles, but quite extended talk about trackers placed elsewhere.

But "trackers" as defined here only track the user's location, like their IP address. As far as tracking the profiles someone views and who they send messages to, as well as any other online behavior, would require more of a spyware and perhaps keylogger situation...of course using such things on a computer that you do not own is highly illegal. And we don't do that here.

I suggest you explore the trackers in the forum I pointed you to above and check out one of the free ones to see what "myspace trackers" do (and don't do).

Re: Sending IP trackers in Myspace messages

Oops! Thanks elleoelle, I thought that is where I posted this. Must've done it wrong. Could someone please move my thread?

I love the friendly help I get here. Thanks to all you geeks!

Re: Trackers/IP question

Under Armour is a legit company, in fact there is a commercial for it on as I type this. Interesting coincidence...

I am watching my fav Chicago Cubs lose yet another game. If you watch a lot of sports you see commercials for them all the time.

I just looked it up on MaxMind again and got the same result.

Re: Trackers/IP question

Under Armour Performance Apparel

I remember that being a clothes store in the USA. I know there are a few in aussie too.

Re: Trackers/IP question
Has anyone heard of the following IP host/server (sorry if I am using the wrong terminology)?: "airband.net" The IP address under question is 65.11.93.96. The info for it comes up as  'possibly forged' according to DNSStuff.

I got a hit on my MS profile from that IP and I'm thinking this might be a proxy or something. Both mixmap and trackspace tracked it, but mixmap says it's a hit from VA and trackspace says it's a hit from Baltimore. When I look it up on maxmind, the organization is  called "Under Armour Performance Apparel." WEIRD!!!

That's what I got when I looked at it thru MaxMind.

How do i make the mixmap code invisible? where can I put it so that noone sees it? i tried putting in some secctions like my interests but it show to everyone.

Re: Trackers/IP question

While setting up your mixmap tracker you have different options to choose from. You can make a visible map, an invisible map, an invisible tracker to put in your headline, and an invisible tracker to put anywhere in your profile. Am I leaving one out, anyways.

I prefer the invisible tracker to put anywhere in my profile. (preferrably closest to the top of the profile so that it will load quickly before a person has a chance to exit out of the profile without getting tracked.)

Re: Trackers/IP question

Hey,
There is a code that says private on it that u have to go back into your acct and get and then u are supposed to put it in your headline.

Re: Trackers/IP question

I think that's pretty normal for America Online hits. I've had that happen quite a few times with the same two trackers.

Re: Trackers/IP question

Not sure why that would be, but they are both aol IP's which really you can't narrow down any further

Re: Trackers/IP question

you should try createblog's myspace tracker. look at the demo on their site. its not ad-laden like all these 2342342323 tracker sites. plus it tracks more than just myspace - hi5, xanga, blogger, etc.

Re: Trackers/IP question

Does anyone know why my IP comes up on one of my trackers as correct, but on the other always picks it up coming from TX (I'm in Atlanta)??

Re: Trackers/IP question

Different trackers use different geo-location databases to map your IP to a location, which isn't perfect in the first place.

Re: Trackers/IP question

Thanks for all the info guys.

Been a great help. I tried the Ip I was looking at on a geoloaction site - maxmind turns out I know someone who lives in that aera.so I guess its a chance its them. yet When I use mix map it says its a few towns over. but its all good. I got a rough idea who it is now. This site is great. thanks heaps for everyones help:)

Re: Trackers/IP question

trackspace.net is probably the best ip tracker and myspace doesn't seem to filter their codes, since they don't violate the MySpace ToS.

These IP trackers use what's called geo-location to determine the location of the IP, it isn't perfect and is constantly updated, that's why the same IP can give you 3 different locations over a span of time.

Re: Trackers/IP question

when i tested trackspace on a fake/testing profile, and logged on with my own, it shows me my IP in a completely different state...i guess thats good so i cant be identified by others but how is that useful for me to identify one.  also, how am i being tracked by my fake profile if i have adblock plus with Firefox?

Re: Trackers/IP question

Well I live in FL and trackspace tracks me as in CA.  I have comcast and their headquarters is in LA so I show up as from there.  However if you click on the button "click for more info" it will show you that I am in FL.  As for it now tracking you and your fake profile well it does that after you registered - you are now in their system.  What you can do is go to your account there and mark your profile with trackspace as "Private" so if anyone should track you on that site it will only come up as private.

Re: Trackers/IP question

i cancelled it on my profile but when i log into my profile with Firefox, then log into trackspace with the fake one i show up. (does that make sense?) lol

Re: Trackers/IP question

Do you have the list imported on your adblock for Firefox?  If you do then you shouldn't be tracking.  Just having adblock with out the list will not block you.  Is your adblock blocking (you should see a red stop sign in the upper right hand side - if it's gray then it's off) turned on?  As for it still tracking your fake - well your fake is now in it's systems as being with that IP.

Re: Trackers/IP question

Also as a general note, most geo-location databases are about 80% accurate within a 25 mile radius in the USA. So in other words take it with a grain of salt.

Trackspace is good, but lately I haven't been able to get on their website at all, I just get "500 - internal serve error".  I'm guessing they're doing site maintenance yet again, so hold off a before you try them.

I haven't had any problems either.

Re: Trackers/IP question

I've been getting that error message for over a week...

Re: Trackers/IP question

Are you IE or Firefox.???  I find that I have problems getting it in Firefox at times so I only view it in IE.

Re: Trackers/IP question

I almost exclusively use Firefox, so I'll give it a crack in IE.  I generally only use IE for 'lil sis, lol, and for Windows updates.
