after viewing my myspace page on IE today i noticed part of my trackspace code is visible in my headline! I normally use Firefox, but has it always been like this on IE? it would suck to find out my visitors knew i was keeping tabs on them this whole time.

tracker visible in headline?

Well, this seems weird, to me. Someone whose page I have a little habit of visiting a lot... actually just the headline page (I"m not sure what to call it) ... he's private, and i'm not a friend so I can't see the whole page ... in his status box, he wrote, basically, "please quit stalking my page." ok, but, since he's private, he should know exactly who is visiting his page. I have ABP and no headline tracker is showing up on myspace scrape. In the headline are some of these things <<< >>>, but nothing else that looks like a code. Beats me.
Could it be that he said quit stalking me because his profile view counter has skyrocketed
"Dance with the devil and the devil doesn't change...the devil changes you...."
Since I don't have a myspace page, I don't really know, but if a profile counter counts hits that just made it to the headline (and not to the whole profile, which is private), that sounds like that would make sense.
just an fyi...i believe all tracking codes are visible in the headline via hideinthesky.com/myspacescrape.com too.
i know my pt.us is, and i believe when i had mixmap it was the same way. so, if your target uses those sites at all, they will see it.
i just checked my headline via mobile (Firefox & wml), and could not see my pt.us code though.
Yes anything you put in your headline (even if your profile is private) will show on myspacescrape (HITS). See your headline regardless of your setting will always be public. There is no way around hiding that one. Look on the bright side most do not know about it. You can even see the tracker if you look at the page source but again most don't know that!
My private page headline mixmap tracker shows on myspacescrape.com too
Thanks for the resource...I just checked and my main target's site has the hidden tracker revealed via myspacescrape.com...
Does anybody know of any that are completely detection proof that can be installed in the headline?
There really is no full proof. As long as one can view the source codes and with sites like myspacescraps then you cant really hide it 100%. Now for most they would never know. Most who do know block the trackers so you wouldn't see them anyways. Bottom line is you hope most don't know.
I think I came across a MixMap "hidden headline tracker" glitch...when you use a mobile phone browser to get to a myspace site using the direct URL the black MixMap logo shows...
Not using Myspace mobile...but going directly to it with a "go to URL" option and typing in the URL...
Did anyone notice this?
I just tried it on my Blackberry (typed in my own url - I have mixmap in the headline) and nothing showed for me. Well except for the extra "quote" mark thing that I've never been able to get rid of. (Quote does not show on a desktop though, just on phone.)
Are you still seeing this happen today? Ug, that would not be good. Oh well, everyone seems to have trackers these days I guess.
maybe try putting this in before the tracker...if you have room, and see what happens.
<font style="display:none;">
Yeah, maybe that's why my Mixmap seems to be okay when viewing on my cell. Try that, "Traxingyou." Let us know if it works for ya.
Everything seems to be working again. Hopefully it was just a glitch. I now have a picture for my headline again. Yay!
I used the foambrush code, it worked like it was supposed to. Now what I dont understand is the tracker in my headline will pick up my hit on my profile when I go through IE, making me think its working. It will not pick up anyone else though! Why is that?
Quoted from the MySpace forums
"Myspace has changed the length of unbroken character strings allowable in headlines. It gets a break inserted after 20 characters. That means you need to find a URL shortener thats not filtered."
URL Shortener
"Its a site that generates a very short URL out of a long one. I know some are filtered here on myspace, so its hit or miss, you can google and give a few a try."
So headline codes may still work, once my test subject gets home we can see if there is a fix
"To err is human--and to blame it on a computer is even more so."
-. --- / -. . .-- / -.-. --- -.. . ... / ... - --- .--. / .- ... -.- .. -. --.
I tried the URL shortener...didn't work for me. I did manage to put an img src code in the headline and not having it filtered. I believe they're filtering link codes if we can find an alternate way, such as an automatic pop-up link code that isn't filtered tied to your img src...then I think we got it.
Sorry if this seems obvious, just something I noticed.
So headline codes may still work, once my test subject gets home we can see if there is a fix
Test subject?!? I feel so used - just kidding.
Tomorrow after work I can play....I mean test ...haha. Hopefully we can figure it out *fingers crossed*
Update (Nov. 2nd): Well I tried about 10 URL shortening sites and yes I did get them shortened. I then placed the shorten URL's in the headline - hit "save all changes" and woo la it would change to this > .. So I don't know all of the URL's I tried were under 20 characters. So maybe when my test subject gets home *cough Foamy where are you?!?* we can play some more.
I tried it as well. Same thing. Myspace has filtered any link tags be it META or HREF, if we can find around this somehow I think we've got it.
Always thinkin!
If thats whats going on, hopefully the tracker sites will get with it and shorten their codes!
Good luck!!!
I thought that the code from foambrush would actually also bloc the trackers from being displayed, just like it blocks the other stuff from being displayed. Am I wrong?
It blocks everything, but the tracker code no longer works in any headline in any profile even if you hide it with this, we tested it on last night and the trackers wouldn't pick up anything sorry
"To err is human--and to blame it on a computer is even more so."
-. --- / -. . .-- / -.-. --- -.. . ... / ... - --- .--. / .- ... -.- .. -. --.
Thanks for testing this stuff foambrush.
Thanks to smartmom too she was the test subject again
"To err is human--and to blame it on a computer is even more so."
-. --- / -. . .-- / -.-. --- -.. . ... / ... - --- .--. / .- ... -.- .. -. --.
Bummer! So this means we can no longer track hits from "outsiders" when our profile is set to Private? Unless there's another tracker that will work in the headline, but I'm not aware of any. Wah!
Also, you can no longer pull headlines from HITS either. Dang, everything is going to Hell lately!! haha
Thanks fosho. I just checked my fake and yep, the png code was right next to my photo lol
Yep. My trackspace has been visible in my headline all day I guess. In both Firefox and IE.
So has Trackspace's "cover" been blown?
I can see the code when I view my profile.
I'm guessing that's why there has been some problems with tracking lately?
Just looking for verification.
Happy Halloween everyone!
My trackspace code was visible too. I moved it to my "about me" section. It's working, but my profile's private so now I can't track anyone who stops by the page. Damn it.

<font style=display:none;>
just insert it in front of tracker code it hides everything in headline area including trackers, the only downside is no one can see your last login or location
"To err is human--and to blame it on a computer is even more so."
-. --- / -. . .-- / -.-. --- -.. . ... / ... - --- .--. / .- ... -.- .. -. --.
thanks foambrush, this code helps!
*UPDATE*****
So I used that code foambrush, and followed the advice of putting a small quote followed by a "....then your code foambrush...and then my tracker code. Seemed like it worked because I don't see it anymore. But when I go back to edit my profile, the tracker code is gone, just a few periods there.
??? Am I doing something wrong or did myspace filter this for good? Thanks
What if I already had that code in my headline, to hide my location/last login/etc? Do you think my trackspace code was still visible to people when this thing happened earlier today?
Also, even though this code keeps the trackspace code hidden in your headline, I've noticed that Trackspace has not picked up hits since mid-day today. So MySpace has probably found a way to kill the code completely, in the headline (whether it's visible or not).
Or maybe Trackspace is just on one of it's stupid "down" times again, and it's not picking up hits. Ug.
During some testing tonight, I am not having the same results as you are. By using the information that foambrush suggested, everything is fine and Trackspace is picking up hits for me and the trackspace code is not visible in the headline.
When you look at your profile, you may just see one quotation mark in the headline section that looks like " So, put in a very-small-quote and then place one quotation mark after that small-quote. (Followed by that code that hides location/last login, and then followed by your trackspace code). This will make your quote have two quotation marks as normal. If you want no quote at all, then you would just add one quotation mark before the codes (hide location/last login code and trackspace code.)
Thx, I tried (and I believe I'm doing it right) but TS still isn't registering my hits. Bummer.
Did you switch your profile back to public? If so, then maybe you are having the current wierd glitch with trackspace (that is causing hits to disappear.) Hopefully this whole headline thing is just a glitch, but it doesnt look seem like it.
EDIT: I just read the announcement on mixmap that says that myspace has changed the way they display headlines. So, this whole thing isnt a glitch and you will need to continue using foambrush's tip above--Thank goodness that works. (i dont use private profiles except to test issues like we had today, but thank goodness for the ones who use them.)
anyways, M140 i hope your lack of hits is just a temp glitch (trackspace hits disappearing.)
No, I'm still Private. My headline "looks" okay (no codes showing), but Trackspace isn't picking the hits up. Oh well, I'll sit tight and maybe try it again later. Thanks for all your help though!
If you have a tracker in your headline then you need to go check your profile(s). It looks like image codes are now showing. Trackers like trackspace are in a image code. So check your profile....
Well I checked it out on my fake and Oh yeah it was showing. So removed it from my headline and moved it to another area (interest section). It's still tracking and working fine.
On my real profile I also have trackspace and I've never had in my headline. So if you have it in your headline just copy it and paste it in another area and I will work fine.
I also noticed that all of my pictures are gone in my headline. I use to have a image there vs a headline. Since trackspace's code is a image code just with out the image (0 height and 0 width) then that must be it. Myspace must now not allow images in the headlines.
I added the fix and MixMap still isn't tracking. Is MixMap working for anyone else?
BTW, I really liked having a picture in my headline; I'm going to miss it... We'll have to come up w/something!
You can move MixMap to another area and it will track. I don't have mine in my headline and it's tracking just fine.
I agree with you I miss my picture in my headline.....
yes, I did this. However, I want to stay private...so I can't see who's visiting my page other than my friends...oh well
thanks
it's a give or take situation I guess for now
I have my tracker in the headline. I am about to move it. I do have trackspace. This is what is in my headline:
<img src="http://www.yourspacenow.com/img/glitterimagesstars17.gif"> Waiting 4 The Day We Meet Again! <font style="display:none;"><img border=0 height=0 width=0 src=http://www.trackspace.net/f/34310886/get.png>
What is in my Source Page:
<img src="http://www.your<wbr/>spacenow.com/img/gli<wbr/>tterimagesstars17.gi<wbr/>f"> Waiting 4 The Day We Meet Again! <font style="display:none;<wbr/>"><img border=0 height=0 width=0 src=http://www.track<wbr/>space.net/f/34310886<wbr/>/get.png>
What is the <wbr> about? I DID have a sparkling star! MS pisses me off sometime!
Weird, if you just search your name, the headline comes up normal, the pictures don't go away and the trackers don't show until you click to view profile. Wonder if it's a glitch that will soon be worked out?
Wow didnt think about searching. My star is still showing when you search and find me. Does anyone know what the <wbr/> is or what is meant for?
to candilove: The WBR element is a stand-alone element which indicates to the browser where a particular word is ALLOWED to be broken. This does not necessarily mean that the word WILL be broken at this point - it is just a guide for the browser.
I also noticed when I joined trackspace today the same problem...the headline is for private profiles to be tracked, so you can put the code in the about me for public profiles, where it doesn't show up. But it does suck otherwise, lol
