Tips to Keep Warm ♨ This Winter ❉

Yay! lots of good ideas!

we still have winter for another like 4 months here.  LoL.  I'm wondering, if i have an apartment...i pay an energy bill each month.  this past month it was around 240.  pathetic.  would it be cheaper to use a space heater?

i'm going to cover my windows with plastic.  has that helped much with anyone's bill?

FLANNEL SHEETS!! I love them, along with my down comforter, and my electric blanket. THe blanket goes btwn the flannel sheets and the comforter, and only goes on for about an hr b4 bed, to warm it up. My dad swears my mother is NOT allowed to put flannel sheets on the bed until a fri, otherwise he's oversleeping for work.

If the windows are old, plastic them up. the kind you shrink with a hair dryer is great. Oh, and space heater... yes.. godsends! And big warm fuzzzy slippers. I'll add more as it gets colder, casue i'm drinkin, and well pretty toasty on the inside right now LOL

all of the tips/tricks have been helpful. thanks mucho to everyone! headed to town tomorrow w/husband of mine. will pick up a few space heaters primarily for the gym in the basement, theatre room, and game room which are all down there. brrr! also will have an energy analysis done on our home in a few weeks which will show where we are losing heat the most and what we can do to eliminate or greatly reduce that.

this has been quite the experience going from 24/7 warm to frost bit everythings!

I built my house 4 years ago.  My other house was gas heat and it was toasty.  My new place?  It feels cool to my wife despite being all brick, 2' of blown insulation in the attic, and triple pane Low E windows.  I went with dual top of the line heat pumps but now I wish I had kicked in an extra 10 grand and got geo-thermal heat. 9' and 10' ceilings don't help.  A few people think that KY's climate is a bit too cool during the coldest part for a heat pump.

My body is a walking furnace so I'm in boxers all the time but she's usually bundled up.  She'll miss my radiant heat when I'm gone. 

Having the windows newly caulked is a big help Tuna, if you haven't done that, assuming you ought to, you'll notice the difference immediately. It takes the draft away almost completely.

The space heater is the other thing I use. Even a small one can heat the whole living room and it saves money on the heat, gas or oil. Those are the only things I use and they work great because I'm never freezing in my place, so try em out and good luck

Get a small space heater to bring from room to room with you.  I'm currently using one of these, but I'm not thrilled with it.  It's kind of heavy and awkward to move about.  I've heard great reviews about this, and will be getting one after the Holidays.  Damp air conducts and holds heat better, and most heating systems can dry out the air.  A humidifier will help, especially in the bedroom.  Look!  A pretty one!  In my small apartment, I find that the humidifier helps maintain a more even temperature.

Throw blankets are your friends.  I keep one at every seat.  Warm socks and slippers are a must for around the house.  I just bought a pair yesterday, inspired by the Uggs thread.  $12 knock-offs, slipper soles, lined with fleece.  My feet haven't been cold since I put them on.

make sure your windows are in good condition to keep the cold air out.  mine are old and need to be changed so i have to put plastic over them in order to keep the draft out.  also area rugs are a good idea on bare floors as they tend to get cold.  aside from that, heavy comforters at nite, throws for when your hanging out on the couch...those things help me.

I definitely use extra blankets and flannel sheets on the beds. I have a blanket that was knitted for me when I was YOUNG and it is SO warm I fight with my daughter for it......lol. My husband tries to put the heat on 69 and the girlie and i whine and complain until he puts it up to 71 at least!
