i have been having a serious issue with my keyboard the last several days. i have a sony vaio laptop and just a few days ago, the letters on the right hand side are typing numbers and characters instead of letters. the letters that should type uiopjklm are typing 456*123-0 and then these characters :[;/ are showing up as different characters as well. the only way i can get the correct letters to show up is to hold down the 'Fn' key that is located by the 'Ctrl' key on the left side of the keyboard. does anyone know how this can be fixed? any help is greatly appreciated!! thanks!
sony vaio keyboard problems
Omg!!! Thank you so much. You were right. You save my life
Ctrl+Alt+NumLk worked for me! Thanks all!
Hi,
I is possible that one of your keys is "stuck" down (although they all may appear to be ok).
I would try shutting down the PC, removing the keyboard and pressing hard on the letters on the right hand side of your keyboard and also the Fn keys.
Then plug the keyboard back in, turn on your PC and see if this fixed the issue?
This has happened to me in the past and this technique resolved my issue.
Regards
Steve
Kinda hard to do with a laptop, no?

It sounds kinda like you turned on the numberpad-lock which turns those letters into the 'number pad'.. look at your FN keys to see if there is one that says something like "num lock", hold FN and hit that num-lock key (ONCE!), and see if that helps.
good looking out, but unfortunately that didn't do the trick...
I have a Sony Vaio and did the same thing a few weeks ago. It took me a while, but I finally fixed it... I just do not know exactly what I did! I just kept playing with the keys trying different things with the FN key and something finally worked. but, honestly, I could not tell you just what I did.
Hold down Shift key whil pressing the NumLk key.
If that does not work... hold down ctrl & alt & NumLk/ScrLk. I went through this with my keyboard again this morning and that is what worked for me.
some of my keys dont respond unless you hold it down hard or tap like crazy. i need a miracle
Probably a dirty keyboard.. try turning it upside down and shaking out all the crumbs, toenail clippings, etc.. a air-can may help too. if not, you may need a new keyboard (they're cheap!)

Hello
well, it *seems* serious, but in fact its a really stupid thing. Press the block number on the right side of the keyboard (should be next to F12), that's it! Pressing angain you'll lock the num-pad again (when its activated you see one of the green indicators (up, right) lit-up. Trivial! (but it took me 2 days and the hint about the num-pad from this forum to figure it out).
