I wasnt sure where to post this...but I need suggestions!

I have two computers. Cable internet connection. One is wireless. Currently, I am using the computer that is wireless..it seems to work better.

The last two days, the internet has been SLOW, but not only that, I can only get on certain webpages. This is on both computers. To get on GuG, I had to google it, then click cache, then click cache text, and log in that way. Weird. I have run anitvirus on both because that was my first thought but nothing showed up. Unplugged everything, reset everything, even set up a new wireless channel. I ran on diagnostic test on both computers. The one directly connected to the cable modem showed that the Network Adaptors failed. Clicking the drop down menus on each I found that each of the following failed under that category...Ethernet adapter, DNSServerSearchOrder, and then what looks like an ip address. I also put a call into my cable provider but the soonest they can get out here is Thursday. Thats about a lifetime away as far as I am concerned LOL

Sorry if I dont make correct sense, I am not as computer savvy as I like to think! Can anyone think of what my problem is?! More importantly, is this something I can fix myself?

If your internet is wireless, make sure it has a password. Your neighboors could be tapping into your internet making it slower. But that shouldn't effect only being able to go to certain websites. I had that problem when I didn't clear my cache. But if it's a really bad signal only simple websites will load.

Well it prompted me to enter and confirm a password when I set up the new wireless connection earlier today; is that what you mean? Or is there somewhere else I should have a password on it?

And the cache has been emptied.

Um I'm not sure when in the process you set up your password, but it's called a WEP key or WEP password. There are ways for people to get around them but for the most part it should keep your wireless signal a lot safer, only your household should have access to it.

Re: Help! Internet connection...

WEP is the easiest for hackers to get into. And if there wasn't a pass on the old channel, it could still be in use, if there's a savvy teenager in your neighborhood whose internet got cut off....well you never know. Use WPA encryption, it's harder to crack.

Have you tried using system restore on the pc that's connected to the modem? Try rolling back to before the trouble started and see if that helps any.

You guys are awesome...there is a another area to set up a password, which I did not do! I set it up AGAIN, the correct way like you mentioned. I'm back and running fast again. Someone must of got a new computer for Christmas around here and was leaching my connection LOL

Thanks again! Smiling
