My husband loves bbq, but, well, we don't do it often. One of his favorites is pulled pork, and we've found a way to do it in the slow cooker, that turns out fantastic! Oh, and if you have to entertain a large group - this is an easy meal!
You will need:
1 boneless pork roast. Size varies depending on how many people you are feeding.
Garlic powder and/or fresh garlic
Salt & Pepper
Barbeque sauces of your choice.
Put your roast in the slow cooker. Season with salt, pepper and garlic. Do not add traditional roast items live veggies, soup mixes, canned soups etc. Seriously, I think we just use salt, pepper and garlic powder. Turn the slow cooker to low.
Now, I have done this where my slow cooker was completely full of meat. To make sure it was ready, I turned it on low the night before, and let it go overnight. You want to let this cook for a long time, the longer the better, because the goal is a roast that is falling apart. I think I've started a roast around 8 am to be eaten around 3 pm. (Started early before church, eaten after, etc.)
When it's ready, pull it apart using to forks. You might have a few pieces that will require a knife, but probably not. Add enough barbeque sauce to give it a little bit of color and flavor, but not so much that it's 'saucy.'
Serve like sandwiches, on good buns or rolls, with cheese. We like to have a few unique bbq sauces that people can put on top of their sandwiches, which is why we don't over sauce it in the slow cooker.
