Same IP, different locations show up in trackers

I am trying to find out why one of my trackers picks up an IP in one location and another tracker picks up the same IP in a different location (not even remotely close). Mixmap picked up the correct city but spacetracker picked a city several states away. I know that the person viewing my page was not using a proxy.
Also, when I hit my own page, my IP shows up as TX in one of my trackers- but I'm in Atlanta. When I trace my IP it shows up in TX- does this mean when I view other people's pages my IP will show up from TX? What's the deal? I'm confused

Are you using AOL? Because I have been told that AOL will change your location?
And some trackers are just inaccurate.

No, I don't use AOL which I gather uses a large network of proxies?
A friend of mine's IP (who lives less than a mile from me) also shows up as TX. I'm assuming we use the same ISP so I'm wondering if maybe the IP location is maybe an office or something of our ISP rather than our actual location?

I don't know why, but that's happened to me as well. I have a friend in NC, trackspace shows it as NC, but if I run the IP through maxmind, it says he's in Kansas. Scared the crap out of me, thought it was the evil ex! Couldn't for the life of me figure out how he was viewing my private profile. False alarm, just weird tracker results.

I was coming on here today to ask a question similar to yours. My problem is..I have a myspace friend who lives in Ohio but also her ip comes up as Texas. I've checked numerous times incase I've entered the wrong person but it is definately right. Also, recently, this same person comes up as identified but also sometimes as a hidden secured user. I use trackspace and you can hide your identity on there but why does it sometimes show her profile but other times as hidden. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

It could be because she's logging on at different computers. Perhaps she using a computer at work vs one at home. There is tons of information about your question in other threads that are about Trackspace. Best advice would be to search the tracker threads and read every post on trackspace, you'll see that your question has been answered somewhere in there! Good luck

its because the trackers use a different geolocation database. try createblog's myspace tracker, their location are almost always accurate.
