recommend a good myspace tracker

recommend a good myspace tracker

Can anyone recommend a good myspace tracker. If there's a free one, it would be great.

thanks

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

of course, profiletracker.us is the best for $5 a month. they give you the link that the person hit on your profile (i.e. profile.myspace.com/yourfriendid or blog.myspace.com and sometimes the referring link too!) most of the time you get a snapshot of the profile that hit your profile (this is about 50-75% accurate). they provide you with a snippet of code that not only can you plug into your profile and track people, but you can also send it in an email so that when the email is opened, you have a POSITIVE id for that friend. that way, you've got all their info (ip, isp, lat & long, etc.).

for a free tracker (30 day trial), i also like statcounter.com . i don't see it mentioned on this site much, but it is very accurate, picks up most hits, and will give you all the same ip/isp info as profiletracker.us, just not the friend pic or referring link. it will show how many pageloads, approx how long they were on your site...pretty cool.

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

so what is the downside for profiletracker.us? there's gotta be a downside.

your stats page, is it public like mixmap, or is it password protected?

are the hits with the profile pics other people who have the same tracker, or has someone actually found a way to subvert the javascript restriction?

can you tag the IP when you know who the visitor is, for easy reference?

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

The downside to profiletracker is a lousy admin, and not being able to get ANY real help on their forums.

In addition, the "new" tracker on PT is not very accurate.  You can likely get the correct IP address (which you can get on any free tracker) but the system used to identify tracks is SEVERELY flawed and rarely accurate. So you're paying for something you can get for free. Not at all worth it in my opinion.

Those who sing the praises have 1) never needed help on there, and 2) likely have an OLD code which tracks reliably which cannot be used by new members. It used to be a great tracker..."used to" being the key point.

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

profiletracker.us is not always accurate. it does usually say "similar match" "likely match". yes, if you know who the person is, you can label them, and all your logs from that ip address will turn into that person. the tracker catches people who do not have the tracker. no your logs are not public. the obvious downside is that you have to pay $5 a month. myspace has been messing with trackers as of late, and profiletracker.us has been affected. i'd say there were about a handful of days where mine was close to non-functional. but, you just have to do maintenance sometimes...pull the codes back out, put them back in...etc.

some of the best profiletracker.us threads:

and of course, almost evil and smartmom are tops as it relates to knowledge of profile trackers in general.

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

I'm really glad you asked that question...I need to know too!  I'm kinda getting worried about my fakespace and my realspace...and my IP address...

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

I LOVE profiletracker.us  I'm very new to all of this but I found profiletracker to be very easy to understand and I also found that I can use the info that my tracker catches to get latitude and longitude coordinates (other trackers likely give the same info..) then run the coordinates thru a "reverse geocoder" (http://www.geonames.org/maps/reverse-geocoder.html) and sometimes it'll spit out a street address.  Maybe other people will chime in on how accurate this info is??

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

Awesome free trackers are

Createblog.com

trackspace.com

mixmap.com

There are also several threads here on GUG about the pro's and con's of the various trackers.

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

almost evil you are becoming my go to person for tracker questions Sticking out tongue i hope you dont mind! i have a couple.

1st, i signed up to trackspace but havent gotten an email. i checked my spam folder, nothing. requested to have it resent, nothing. its an aim email does that matter? (although, when i clicked the 'have activation email resent,' it seemed to log me in but i cant view my visits bc my account still isnt activated.)

2nd, i checked out createblogs website and it mentioned it had new measures to prevent hijacking?? what is that about? were users myspaces being hacked or their tracker account?

and 3rd, and maybe most importantly, lets say i used to live in A, california.  i remember visiting sites sometimes and those banner ads that were like, find such and such in your area! and it would list city A (ie the ad could identify the city i was using my computer in).  i have since moved to B, california and now it will show up as city B. so my question is what exactly shows up as the IP? i know its the address so to speak of the computer itself but it seems to matter where it is plugged in??

and my own 2 cents for others as well:  i just picked up a hit from mixmap from a friend who i KNOW lives/used to live in my town (the time of the mixmap hit and the comment he left are what make me so sure its him) and mixmap identified his IP as coming from that town.  but his actual myspace profile says he lives in a diff city. just thought id mention that as a possible troublemaker to lookout for when trying to make positive IP identifications!

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

hey almost evil you seem pretty knowledgeable about a lot of myspace related stuff so maybe you (and everyone else with info) can answer this? i have a fakespace and usually use that to look at diff targets profiles.  but, since i use my computer for everything, real and fake profile, ill have the same IP address.  i read somewhere on here a looong time ago that one tracker could show all profiles linked to a specific IP.  do you by any chance know whats up with mixmap? if im logged onto my fake will only my fake show up on other peoples trackers? i only have a partial part of the tracker list added to my adblock so far Sticking out tongue thanks a bunch!

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

For starters, add all the trackers to your block list Smiling

The only trackers that steal your cookies to get all your profiles (that you logged into from a specific computer) are spacesnoop and profiletracker. They have both been HEAVILY patched by myspace and are not very reliable anymore.  (though for a very, very few, they still work great)

Mixmap is not a tracker that works the same way. It only logs IPs, but does not connect profile IDs with the IP.

But seriously, if you dont want to be tracked, you NEED to add bottlebobs list into the adblock preferences.

Did that answer everything? If not, you can email me. Its late and I might be rambling!

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

i know i know Embarassed its on my to do list! what if by some chance, i looked at a target from my real profile, got my IP tracked, then from then on looked with my fake? if it doesnt link to profiles then im not really worried (or should i be???) but maybe i read something wrong bc i went to mixmaps website and in the "demo map/statistics" it seemed to show the name of the profile.   but i had originally thought it only showed the IP and the general location of where the visitor was logged in like you said...   anyway, yes it is late! thanks for the reply!

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

I think (havent used it in nearly a year) that mixmap lets people enter friend IDs of who they THINK the IP address belongs to. So if no one has 'identified' your IP, you are most likely safe.

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

Well, mixmap.com was recommended to me, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's free too.

Otherwise, there's profiletracker.us, I know many members here use it and love it. You have to pay for it but I don't know how much..and if it's really worth it. I'm sure other ppl will soon chime in to answer your question better than me Smile

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

thank you, actually, I'm using mixmap now. I like it.

Re: recommend a good myspace tracker

I really like mixmap. I have another one and it doesn't pick up near as much as mixmap.
