Godaddy.com is making me GO crazy! Help with FTP servers!

I bought a domain name and a hosting package with godaddy.com
well I guess I know why it is only 50 bucks--it is confusing as hell.
ftp servers. ahh! i am so confused. I have built a site for work using purehost. it was so simple. not that case here.
bought the package thinking it would come with a site builder--no that is more! 4 dollars a month more. i know it doesnt seem like much, but it adds up.
okay-so i thought i could use publisher to make a site and it looks fine but now I cannot get it online.
i did the step by step process. but it says it "cannot connect to the FTP server onn the computer named mywebsite"
Help? anyone!
