I have been reading a lot on how to change my Proxy.. Now I'm no computer whiz at all (but I try)..so I was wondering if you change your proxy does that change your Ip address.. Will you still be visible to web sites on your real location or will it be a fake one.. I don't really get this whole proxy thing.. but I do know how to change it..I just don't wanna change it and it mess my whole PC up ...
Now I have tried free ip address changers which work great but I don't wanna pay for something I can do myself..
So what I'm trying to say is I wanna Hide my IP address if not change it and will changing my proxy do this? and if not what will changing my proxy do? Can you change your ip address without paying to do it?
Sorry for all the ????'s

Re: Proxy's and IP Address Question????

just remember to consider who your advisary is. Who are you trying to deny information? Your typical proxy server keeps track of who's requesting what, and though they won't sell that information to marketers; they will roll over if presented with a subpena. Also, when you use a proxy with no local component; I'm pretty sure you don't get any encryption....

Re: Proxy's and IP Address Question????

To keep it simple, a proxy server is a “go-between” between your computer and the web.  Yes, if you use a high-anonymous proxy, your real IP will be hidden and no, it will not interfere with the way your pc runs, although proxies can speed up your connection or slow it down.  It all depends on the proxy address you are using.

Re: Proxy's and IP Address Question????

Thanks, I kind of know how to do it ... What I want to know is if you change your proxy will it interfere with the way your PC runs? and will your IP address be hidden when you visit web sites or do I have to change my IP address?
What exactly does changing your proxy do?

Re: Proxy's and IP Address Question????

In IE you would click: Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings > Proxy Server > paste in your proxy address and port.  In Firefox you would click: Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Connection Settings > paste in your proxy address and port.
