Ok. Let me start by saying I'm not the most computer saavy person, but I do know enough to know when I have a problem.

I purchased a Toshiba Satellie Laptop about 1 month ago (A105-S4324). Everything was working ok until about 4 days ago. I needed to purchase new Virus/Anti-Spyware stuff, so I did (PC-Cillin). Ever since then, something weird has been going on with my computer. At first, the travel mouse I bought just stopped working on me. I disconnected it, plugged it back it, etc, but it just would not work. It's a plug and play mouse, so there is no driver to reinstall. I finally went out a bought and new one and it works fine, except that when I come back from Standby mode, I get a message about the mouse causing the USB port to exceed it's power??? I never had that message before I bought the new mouse, nor before I installed the PC-Cillin.

Now, I'm having a problem with putting my computer in Hibernation/Standy mode. If I put it in Hibernation mode, it just will not wake up. The computer's running as if it's on, but the screen will not come back on unless I turn it off all the way. The only difference with the Standby mode is sometimes it will work properly and then other times, it will also do the same thing (not come up with a blank screen).

I don't know if these problems are related to just the PC or if the PC-Cillin has something to do with it. I've seen this online other places, but I can't seem to find a solution. I don't think it has anything to do with the computer. From what I can gather, I think it all has something to do with Windows XP.

Can someone help me or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks so much in advance and sorry for the long post !!

Re: Problems w/Standby mode & mouse

Yeah. I did. It's still acting crazy. I think I found the "solution." I have been reading online about problems with standby mode and Windows XP Media Edition (BTW, I mispoke earlier. I forgot I had the Media Edition).  Apparently with laptops it's some kind of big issue and it's actually recommended that you don't put your laptop in standby or hibernation mode because of the same thing that's happening now.  Apparently MS knows about this. but there's got to be some way around this! It's driving me nuts !!!

Re: Problems w/Standby mode & mouse

I had a similar experience with a mouse issue. It was actually my desktop PC. I had had additional USB ports added to the machine, and they were usb 2.0. Now whenever I connected a peripheral that was also USB 2.0 I was constantly getting that power warning you spoke of. But, if I use a lower level USB peripheral, I have no problems. So, perhaps trying a usb mouse that is not 2.0 capable, could solve the problem. It worked for me.

Re: Problems w/Standby mode & mouse

Did you try uninstalling the PC-Cilin and seeing if it is still a problem (you can always reinstall it)?  If the lap top is only a month old then you should take it back to the place you purchased or call the manufacture - it should still be under warrantee.  Good luck!
