I am: What I yam

So you signed up for your new, free account at GrownUpGeek.com and you're ready to post a new forum topic asking why your Windows computer is messed up (or whatever) but when you try, all you see is "Not allowed to post a new forum topic", WTF?!?!

This is how it works:

When you created your new account, we displayed this notice:

What this really means is: Your account will not be fully activated until you click the link in the email message that we will send you.  You will not be able to make posts or do other fun things until your account is 'authorized' by clicking on the link that we email you.  If you don't click on the link that we send to the email address you provide, you will not be allowed to create new forum-topics.  If you provided a fake email address or if you accidentally typed it in wrong, you can't do anything fun!!

So you're saying to yourself, "I'm sorry, I tried to trick you by providing a fake email account when I signed up! I repent, how can I fix it?"   Don't worry - it happens every day, it's easy to authorize your account.

How to authorize/Validate your account after you create it:

Find and click your "My Account" link, which is on the right-side grey-area of most pages.  This will take you to your account-settings page.

Once on your account-settings page, click the Edit tab near the top.  This will take you to your email settings page..  Type in your (correct) email address, then click the "re-send validation email" link.

Be sure to correctly type in your email in the format of: youremailaddress@yourprovider.com  - do not include a www or http - it should only be "name" @ "provider.com" (example: Hubby@GrownUpGeek.com

After entering your correct email address and clicking the "re-send validation e-mail" link, you will see a confirmation at the top of the page that confirms we just sent a message to the email address you provided:

Now, go to your email account and check for new messages.  If you don't see a message from GrownUpGeek.com, check in your "junk" or "spam" folder.  Open the message and you will find a web-site link to click on.  Clicking on the link will bring you here to GrownUpGeek.com and "validate" your account.  Now we will know that you are a real person with a real email address and NOW you'll be able to create new forum topics (and more!)..

"But Hubby, I did all that stuff and I never got any email message from GrownUpGeek.com!"

Yeah - we hate when that happens.  For various reasons, some internet service providers or email providers have decided that email sent to you from GrownUpGeek.com is not worthy of being delivered to your email Inbox.  If this happens please complain to your email provider or internet service provider and let them know that you NEED your GuG (GrownUpGeek.com) email!  After complaining to your internet service provider or email provider send me a message at : Hubby@GrownUpGeek.com and let me know you're having trouble.  Be sure to include the member-name that you created and I will manually authorize your account for you.

That's it! Questions?

Re: Why Can't I Post New Forum Topics / Threads ?

i posted a thread asking how someone can delete their myspace comment even though the view all comments button is hidden...and asked if there is something else i can do to prevent this.

but nothing happend, i didnt see my post, so i paid the $25 to be a member and came back and posted the same thing...and still nothing, except something in red that said i posted the same thing twice..and i cant remember what else it said, but should it take this long? i'm waiting for an answer before i reply to this person cause i dont want the comment deleted again...yes, there is a good reason for this. =]
