So I was trying to send someone a message, and it said that i did not pass the spam filter. then when i returned to my homepage i see this message on it: "Your account has been phished! You've been phished! We have blocked your account, until you change your password! This means you can't send a message, post a bulletin, comment or add a friend until you change your password! Your account has been phished. This means that someone stole your email & password. Since we were able to detect this, we're giving you a chance to change your password now. This will prevent the evil phisher from logging in as you and sending spam comments, emails and bulletins and editing your profile. Change it now, and you'll be safe! And yes, this is really from Tom, & no this isn't fake. No one can change your home page except MySpace. Bad guys can only edit your profile, and login as you. They can't change the page this appears on, so you know this message is real. So please change your password and be careful so you don't fall for it again.
To change your password and secure your account please Click Here." And the link takes me to the page to reset my password. Has anyone else seen this, and is it authentic? It keeps happening, so i'm a little suspicious. Thanks!
"PHISHED" profile?
Amazja, the same thing happened to me today. For me, it was caused by me trying to add a tracker into a message. It didn't pass the spam filter and locked my account and I got the same message from Tom that I had been phised.
Luckily, it was one of my "dummy" accounts and so I wasn't afraid to click on the blue link for changing my password. I clicked on it, and everything turned out ok. I hope it turns out ok for you as well
Read this "disturbing" blog that I just now found... Click here. (it's the 6th blog on the page)
By the way, I "scanned" the blog, and there are no trackers in it. And after you read the blog you will see why she has no trackers.
Well, I hope this works out for you. Let us know if we can help furthermore :)
If this is what is actually happening (you getting "caught" with a tracker), it was just a bad luck of the draw for you. Not everyone gets caught.
I have begun to wonder if the "captcha" box is a tool they use to catch trackers (along with the other stuff it prevents). It pops up when you edit your profile, but it doesn't always pop up. It just pops up randomly (to serve it's real purpose, it should pop up everytime. This could explain why some get caught and some dont). Just my opinion, I dunno.
EDIT: Just wondering if there is anything new going on in your situation?
put this into your address bar while logged into your myspace and see if it will take you to your edit page..
http://profileedit.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=profile.interests
NOTE: keep in mind, I have never been in your situation. So, I dont know if there is any risks with going to your edit page with the above url--since you are in the midst of being phised. But, this is exactly what I would do if I was in your situation.
Also, if I were you, I wouldn't want to log out of the myspace account until you get this figured out. What if you log out, and then try to log back in tomorrow or later and poof, the profile is deleted. If you don't expect any thunderstorms soon, you could put your computer into hybernate mode overnight if necessary. (if you don't have a "top of the line" surge protector, your computer can suffer major damage during a power surge, blackout, and or brownout) So, if you decide to stay logged into myspace, follow that tip.
And one more thing, if you do decide to stay logged into myspace (I would) Internet Explorer will let you stay logged in as long as you want. Firefox mozilla has a security feature which will automatically log you out of a site--if you are logged in for 24 hours.
So, if you are using Firefox, keep it open as long as it will stay open, and in the meantime--click on start and open Internet Explorer and log into the same myspace account so that you can be logged in as long as you need to.
it takes you to the page that changes your password, but it doesn't start with "profileedit" like it would if you go into that page from your account settings.
this is the link:

Don't do it!!! Just wait it out and see what the others here on GuG have to say first. I have never heard of that message, it may actually be a new tactic used by the real phisers. So, just "hold your horses" for the time being. I would suggest that you only change your password through the myspace account settings..NOT from that link. Yeah, I detect a phiser.
Ok, that is weird. But, it could very well be a legitimate warning given to you from the "real" myspace. I don't know.
Could you post a screenshot? (minus any of your personal info of course)
EDIT: this was a tactic msg someone else fell for. Sounds real similar. It's virtually impossible for someone to post a bulletin in "tom's place". I bet that whole page with the supposed tom bulletin is a fake page in itself. Anyways, here is a similar fake message someone else has fallen for...
"You've been phished! We have blocked your account, until you change your password! This means you can't send a message, post a bulletin, comment or add a friend until you change your password!

UPDATE: Use this link to go directly to your change password screen.
http://profileedit.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=accountSettings.changePassword
Hey amazja, sorry to keep adding things, but I keep thinking of things for you. Anyway, while you are logged in copy and paste the above link into your address bar, and then change your password in that screen. Also, change your email address password, etc.
While you are looking at the screen that you want to make a screenshot of, press the print screen button close to the top right of your keyboard.
Then open paint.
Then click edit and then paste.
Then use the button on paint to select the area you want to use in the screenshot. It is directly under the word edit. It's a dotted square.
Copy the area that you put the square around the object (the bulletin)
Then select all, and delete all. Then paste the object back in. Then save the paint page you just made.
Then go to somewhere like photobucket and upload the image into your photobucket album. Then get the url of the image.
Then click on the image button on GuG within your post, and that should work. I hope I didnt leave anything out.
You are welcome, and good job doing your first screenshot
Getting some second opinions and more insight is a good idea. However, time is of the essence in this type of situation. It's sort've like an emergency.
Let me do some checking around and I will post back. Maybe someone has some more insight too
