Perfect Pot Roast w/only 4 ingredients:

Ingredients:
2 pound pot roast (Rump Roast or Tri Tip are the best)
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 package dry onion soup mix
3/4 can of water (from mushroom soup can)

Directions:
In a slow cooker, mix cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix and water. Place pot roast in slow cooker and coat with soup mixture on top.

Cook on high setting for 3 to 4 hours, or if frozen, cook on low setting for 8 to 9 hours. No need to make gravy, the dry onion soup mix and the cream of mushroom soup are the perfect blend and consistency!

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

OK I'm bumping this thread because this was dinner last night.  Yes tuna - you rock girl.  This is so good and so easy.  I figured superbowl I wasn't cooking but I wanted something good.  So I made this and got the country crock mash tatters plus a salad - woo la dinner was served.  Prep time maybe 10 min. top

Is this chicken, what I have, or is this fish? I know it's tuna, but it… it says "Chicken of the Sea".

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

WOW 007Martini. Sounds good. I don't have much experience with a slow cooker. I cook my roast in an oven. I put a little oil in the bottom of the pan. I season the roast cut up potatoes add carrots (I take the short cut and get the baby carrots!!) onioins and french cut green beans. Put tin foil over it and let it cook. I cook it at 350 and the time depends on how big the roast is. I'll have to ask my mom for some slow cooking recipes!!

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

I wanted to make this yesterday, but I haven't gotten to the grocery store recently, so I improvised.  I covered the bottom of the crock pot with diced potatoes, used Cream of chicken soup instead of mushroom, and used a few chicken leg/thigh combos instead of beef.  Oh, and I threw some onions on top because I was trying to use them up before they went bad.

Delicious!!!  My boyfriend went back for thirds!!!Laughing

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

Hi 007,

Have you ever added a heavy dash of red cooking wine to your roasts? I usually toss wine into my beef stew.

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

Evening Alive2dive & Smartmom:

No I have not; it had never occurred to me while preparing a roast to add red cooking wine, but Wow! Sounds fabulous. I'm drooling. Yes.

Its no secret to those who know me that I do use the hell out of dry white cooking wines & Marsala's; usually in a slow cooker recipe with poultry!

I'm so anxious to upload my slow cooker library however I have not heard back yet from Hubby or Geek and I don't know how to create a Slow Cooker forum, independently. I did exchange a few emails with Gunner and he suggested I too email Geek and Hubby. So I did again. I'm just waiting for their reply. Smartmom has also given very kind words of encouragement. I'm jazzed now. Completely. However, I cannot foresee Slow Cooker as an independent forum because of the main Cooking forum. But likely it will be a subcategory or sub forum or something like that.

Any suggestions on how I can get this rolling?

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

Heck yes on the vino! Cooking wine in the glass doesn't sound nearly as good as a Kendall Jackson Merlot, 2003 Vintners Reserve - give it a good 20 minutes to breathe off the sulfates.

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

Taco.Hell is what we call it. But yummy nonetheless! I actually made this roast yesterday when my son & daughter came home for Sunday dinner w/the fam. So this evening, we're having the roast leftovers (the meat & gravy), only diced up and dropped inside of a baked potato. And of course, peas.

Still hungry? Dinner's in 30 minutes......c'mon over!

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

Yummy....I'm a big fan of slow cookers (turn it on, go to work, come home and dinner is done).  Have you ever added veggies to the pot roast?

Hey maybe a whole slow cooker forum 007Martini

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

hey there smartmom.

no - i have never added veggies to that particular pot roast recipe primarily due to the dry onion soup mix ingredient - - and secondarily because i have a 9 year old that prefers her veggies and gravy "don't touch!"

i am the master of slow cooker recipes! not by choice mind you, but do to my days in the corporate america arena, which often called for travel, and raising four children. i would totally dig manning a slow cooker forum. now that i am a SAHM (stay at home mom), i have way to much time on my hands. way to much! how can i make that happen?

Re: Perfect Pot Roast

Very nice! Thanks Stevie. Several of my friends have renamed it "No Brainer Pot Roast."
It is delicious. Simple. Spoon the gravy mixture over rice, pasta, mashed potatoes, etc. - - the recipe basically cannot turn out bad. The longer it cooks in the crock pot the better it tastes.
