Clients .torrent

Clients .torrent

Each of the various P2P sharing methods has its own clients or software. I will start with the clients that I know and you can all feel free to join in with your own experiences and client preferences.

Bitcomet---- This is one of the easiest to use clients. It is also banned by several trackers because it does not report its share level back to the tracker correctly giving this program a "leecher" reputation. This being said it is still very easy to use has a simple to use and understand interface and is very fast in comparison to other clients.

Utorrent----This client is very popular it has more advanced options than Bitcomet and is not blocked by any tracking sites. The Interface is clean and easy to understand and the client itself does not eat up huge amounts of system resources.

Azureus----This is a java based client, it is easy to use once you get it set-up but from my experience is not the client of choice if are not comfortable with LAN/WAN settings.

Re: Clients .torrent

OK, I got another silly question, let's say I download something, then I want to move it to a new folder on my computer... can I still have it for people to download from another folder.... cause once I move or change anything it gives me an error.

Re: Clients .torrent

You can move the file(s) to another folder and then start up the torrent. It will ask you to choose the download location again and you just choose the new folder. If the torrent has created a separate folder for the download you'll have to move the whole folder to the new location.

This is how it works for bittornado, could be that it's different for other clients.

Re: Clients .torrent

Once you download it you have to leave it in the download folder so you can share it, I would suggest copying it to the other location until you have shared it to at least a 1:1 ratio, then you can delete it from the torrent client

Re: Clients .torrent

Thanks Foam, that hit's it on the head. I have to change a few things, cuase my OS is only a 20 GIG patition, and all files I download are on there.... so as you can imagine, it fills up quick.... I can work it though

Re: Clients .torrent

You can choose the download location and destination location for once the file is finished in BitComet, UTorrent, and Azuereus

I would not have the default for either on my main C: drive if you have partitions

I have a partition just for .torrent downloads makes it easy to find and eventually clean

Remember though be a good sharer seed at least as much as you get, and sometimes seed more for those files you download that you can never seem to get to a 1:1 ratio

Re: Clients .torrent

I am being a good sharer now that I get what is going on. I usually get it up to 1.5 or 2 before I delete it. But I am using the copy Idea....

The reason I have it set up this way (I learned this with limewire, cause of all the ad ware and viruses), I download to my C drive, then scan the files, and make sure everything is good. THEN I move it to my D dive (my only other partition) and orginize it. Then if soemthing happens to windows, or I get a virus I just re-ghost my C drive and am back running. If I had a better computer (that could hold more drives), or if I had a bigger Hard Drive, I would do 3 partitions.... but for now this works for me.

Re: Clients .torrent

Although im loyal to demonoid.com, I'd recommend torrentbox.com as well.

And as another note, ive found some excellent quality ups from these users:

aXXo (aka 'adso' on torrentbox)who ups everything with dvdshrink as .avi files that play on all my standalone dvd players

Hockney (TUS release) who ups everything in bin/cue (make sure you have nero to burn these files) and his ups have even surpassed aXXo in my book.

Anyone using demonoid should check these two out if you havent already!

Re: Clients .torrent

What programs do you use to get these to dvd.

Currently I use divxtoDVD, shrink and decrypter. Recently I haven't been able to use these on all my dl's any suggestions? I'm pretty new to it though. Just started with the whole "torrent" thing have always used Ares before. Trying out new things now, moving on up if you will. LOL

torrent?

What torrent do u guys use and which should i use?

Re: torrent?

For torrents there are all types out there. Some cater to certain types. There are lots of public ones and lots of private (invite only) ones. Here are some of my favorite public ones:

http://thepiratebay.org/browse <-- they have a little of everything

http://www.eztv.it/frontpage.php <-- they do TV shows only

http://empornium.us/index.php <-- ADULT only (XXX) Eye-wink

I use a couple of private ones but some have rules against posting them on public forums (they can ban you). Here is one that I really like that is private (that I can post):

http://www.demonoid.com/ <-- a little of everything. Sometimes they have open enrollment but mostly invite only

Now with that said I'll post one that I am a member of but their horrible to deal with:

http://www.bitmetv.org/ Frown

they are TV only. They have very strict rules for a 1:1 ratio. It doesn't matter if you seed the thing for months if you don't have that 1:1 ratio you get booted. Heck my first download they marked my profile (second day in) as: yep they put that exact pic on my profile - nice huh - they pooped on me. Also if you get that so does the person who invited you too. There have been a couple of members from here were banned on that site. They won't let you upload the first month to increase your ratio rather you can buy your way out - pffffff - I don't think so!

Re: torrent?

torrentreactor.net .... I like them, they get a lot of traffic... but they lack on comments so it's hard to sift out the bad...

Re: torrent?

There are several search engines that search public torrent sites such as thepiratebay/mininova/isohunt/torrentreactor:

btjunkie.org

torrentz.com

youtorrent.com

Private trackers:

Here's a decent list of private trackers and what they offer: link. In general private trackers offer higher download speeds, earlier access to new content, more rare content and often longer retention of old torrents. For anything that's popular you don't really need private trackers though because it's all over the public sites.

Re: torrent?

Yeah I hear that.  I like to read what others say.  Nothing like spending 2 days to download to get a bad serial not to mention any other little ugly thing.

Ok I did a thread a while back about a great site I found for scanning torrents - it scans with 21 different anti-virus scans:

21 antivirus scan Free

Re: torrent?

i love those sites. heres one i really like too.

Re: Clients .torrent

So, anyone have any new Torrent sites they have been using? I have tried torrentspy.com.... which wasn't bad, once past all the porn they have as thier adds, lol (not that porn embarrasses me, I like it... just was shocked by it)

There are one or two others I swing through, but nothing that really has what I want. Any more suggestions?

Re: Clients .torrent

demonoid.com   might have to get an invite if open enrollment is closed

piratebay.org

isohunt.com

mininova.org

Re: Clients .torrent

I love ipodnova.tv.

Everything's in mp4 format, so for those who use a video iPod it's excellent. No more converting!

And I've always been happy with BitTornado as a client. But what about viruses? The sites I use all require registration and keeping a good ratio, so I feel relatively safe. Plus, I scan everything no matter where I get it from before I open it. But just like back in the day when we had Suprnova, I do use mininova and meganova for stuff I can't find on the sites where I'm a member.

I might look into the other clients that offer protection, but I'm a seasoned BT user, never had a virus - my AV has caught a few over the years, so no tragedy.

I have invites for Demonoid as well if anyone wants one.

I have used several P2P
I have used several P2P programs, and I like Bittorrent the best. It is very easy to use, nice GUI, and very few viruses (I have not came across one on this program yet). It is also free. You can get it at bittorrent.com.
RE:I have used several P2P
The client you use does not prevent viruses, but the places where you are downloading from has a lot to do with that, so what site/sites are you getting your downloads from? and welcome to GrownupGeek
I forwarded my ports
and am now using uTorrent. I like the advanced features over BitComet and BitComet seemed to suck my Internet connection away. How much or what difference can I expect after forwarding the port that my BitTorrent client uses?
Question
I just checked out the utorrent site you recommended. I have never used torrents before, and really don't have any understanding of it at all. But once on the page, there are 3 different choices to download. Could you point me to the one that I should d/l?
Utorrent
Download the version 1.6 its in the middle box on main page.
Thanks Foam!
I'll install it in the morning and see if I can get it working.
Trackers

Trackers are sites that link you to the files you want to download. Some tracker sites you have to register and maintain a certain ratio of sharing.

Torrent Spy-- No registration needed to search files, but you may have to register with the tracker that the file is originally uploaded to, very large number of files in a variety of areas.

PirateBay---huge site to search for files and an easy place to start they even have a nice how to on downloading.

Demonoid--have to register for this site, but it is clean and easy to use. If the registrations are closed you can have a member of Demonoid send you an invitation.

OK now you have some basic information and a new area to show your expertise and become a trusted member Eye-wink

torrent site

I wanted to add:

torrentreactor.net

I like it... I love the way it's set up and it's incredibly simple... for what I generally look for it's got the most files with the most seeders for my searches.

Re: torrent site

Thanks for the bookmark, Animestrinity.

I also use this site as a torrent search engine:

torrentz.com

I can't vouch for the cleanliness of it, but I figured that just came with the territory. Always read the comments!!!

Torrentscan

Torrentscan.com is a nice site.

Check it out, i can't really explain what it is simply. But you'll understand when you see it.

All the tracker sites on it that I've used have been quick and clean.

Nice
Thats a great find, has most of the top trackers in one spot available for searches.
piratebay

I'd like to clarify that piratebay.com isn't what you're looking for... type thepiratebay.com (or .org, it transfers you to the .org site, but you need to start with 'the') and you get the torrent site... took me a while to figure out what I was doing.

Or maybe my computer just likes to redirect me to crazy sites for no reason at all...

.torrents never work for me

Maybe i just don't know how to use the clients, but i never had any luck using torrents.  Either i can't find what i was looking for, or they take forever to download - am i doing something wrong?  I finally just gave up and went back to LimeWire.

Maybe some pointers?  Also, what is the supposed advantage of torrents over something like LimeWire or Shareaza?

Torrents
Well the problem can be in 2 areas. One the client is configured wrong(your ISP may be blocking certain P2P friendly ports) or the file you want has fewer seeds and takes longer to download. I think the difference is personal preference. I used limewire and ended up with too many junk files some torrents may take longer but I seldom end up with junk downloads. You should try the Bitcomet client and use the option of choose random port, then try downloading something with a large number of seeders vs leechers see if that helps.
I have a torrent that is stuck
I'm using the BitTornado client - I used it to download old movies that I can't find anywhere. I'll say this first: I'm new to this Torrent thing. I successfully got "Silent Running" (sci-fi from the 70's) and now, I'm trying to download "The Cowboys" (John Wayne '72). It's stuck at 99.3% and will go no farther. It says zero peers, zero seeds. haven't really gotten into it to try to troubleshoot it so my DL can finish. (btw...I use LimeWire Pro as some of you do, but anymore the search results are filled with junk.)
RE I have a torrent that is stuck
Try stoping the download and restarting, if it keeps saying no seeds and no peers it may have dried up
I've been starting and stopping for days...
.. it's dry as a bone. haha! If it's dried up is there hope of it being able to finish? Should keep everything as it is and try again periodically? It took me a few days to get 695.81 MB... I can wait and try more later.
RE start/stop
There is hope if where you downloaded from has a way to contact seeder or a forums area to ask for a reseed or your movie
That's bad then..
I don't remember where I found the torrent file. Guess I need to start over.
Here is a screenshot

of my client's progress screen:

Am I correct in thinking that the download that I'm trying to get is not even complete on the other end and that's why it won't finish on my end?

Screenshot
They are in the same boat as you are I would leave it and hope someone seeds you are too close to just dump it unless you need the space on HD
Heck with it
I just bought the darn DVD on eBay. $8 shipped. I did install BitComet. BTW. Nice proggy.
