I am: Addicted to MySpace

I want to know if someone can tell if I'm online or not even though my online status is turned off?
I have a friend that always signs on shortly after I do... and it just seems to frequent for it to be a coincidence.
Can anyone help me with this?
Also could he have sent something in a myspace email message that tracks me somehow... my status and such?
If so and I deleted the message would it still track me?
Thanks in advance for the help...
