Oh brother...filed, but wife's additional part-time income W2s just showed up...what to do?

Okay, I'm not a beginner, but I feel like one. I'm active duty military, and filed my 1040 several weeks ago using one of the popular DIY tax software packages. Everything went through great and I have already received my refund. Problem: while gone on a military deployment during the 07 tax year, my wife temped at a local business, very part-time (just a short-term commitment of about 10 days), in order to sock away a few bucks for Christmas. She didn't make a huge pile of money, approx 750-800 bucks, but of course had to fill out a W4, etc. She received the W2s a bit late, and now...I'm not sure how to march from here. Since my 1040 was filed as a joint return, do I...just have her file her own 1040 (probably an EZ since it doesn't involve a large amount of $$)? Or do I file an amended joint 1040? We want to do this the right way, it probably doesn't affect the bottom line, but we want to be accountable about things and make sure all of our legal i's are duly dotted. Any help from you experts out there is GREATLY appreciated. Trying not to panic here, but this is the first time it's happened to us in 25 years of straight-up 1040s. Thanks so much! She can't file another tax return since you both filed joint. But yes on the amended return. File that. You can also call the IRS and tell them that she just received her W-2. You can explain the situation to them and they can decide to either tell you to file an amended return OR they may ask more questions about when the W-2 was mailed, employer's name, address, phone, etc. Leave that up to them. If they are feeling nice, they will let the employer slide. Employers MUST mail them out in time, or penalties can be assessed. That's why I suggested you call the IRS, (even though you know you have to file an amended return). The deadline date is in place so that employers DO NOT cause taxpayers headaches (along with the IRS) in having to file again. Telephone Assistance for Individuals: Sorry you had to go through this inconvenience. I have clients who haven't ever mailed me a Form 1099 (replaces a W-2 for independent contractors) like they are supposed to, but I still report the income I received. And, you are a SmartTaxpayer for asking the question! Cheers to you too!

No panic lol. Thats what i would be doing! In all honesty to make sure evrything goes ok and so you dont have the IRS knocking down your door I would have a pro do it. I used to report tons of tips I used to make and boy if I wasnt on it they would let me know. The IRS is definetly people I dont want to mess with! Hope you get everything straughtened out!
