Nightwish/women in metal/rock

Nightwish/women in metal/rock

I love my rock and me metal but nightwish has been one of those bands I listened to a few songs and didn't give them that much attention before. I think I generalised from other female fronted rock bands which turned me off a little bit.

Anyway lately I have really started to love them, reading their lyrics and listening to whole albums and watching their live stuff in particular, they have quickly become an amazing band in my opinion.  They seem to have a lot of scope to thier music and lyrics and it all comes together well. I think the vocals are fantastic for a start which I never appreciated before to a high extent.

Also what do you guys think of the new singer? I think she is good but not sure how she will measure up to Tarja... i'm sure she will be great, they took their time getting the right person for the job, it all rests on the forthcomming tour I guess but I think she will be good.

So anyway I wanted to know if any of you on here liked Nightwish as a band and operatics in metal and such bands. What do you think of femal fronted rock/metal etc singers because like I said they sometimes really annoy me but now I have really appreciated the good ones.

I also love within temptation tho I don't think their singer is as strong vocally or as a front person. Lacuna Coil are great as they are a bit different I think.. I could go on there are lots but out of them I think nightwish are deffinately up there in the top few. They got a real punch.

What you guys think? Anyone going to see them on their tour? Good time to see if we have any metalheads in i guess Sticking out tongue

will smiths wife, jada, sings for a band wicked wisdom.  it shocked me when i found this out watching an ozzfest dvd.  i just never wouldve thought that jada pinkett smith was into being in a heavy band.  i think its a really cool thing about her.

Re: Nightwish/women in metal/rock

Yeah the Smith's are also doing a documentary on straight edge. Although the folks they're dealing with may not be the best to represent straight edge but whatever. Still, there's bound to be some focus on music in there.

I never really got into Nightwish, but know someone close to me who is really into them. Thus, I've heard a few songs. Pretty good for the genre imh(umble)o.

try Amaran, and Sinergy

To be honest I think Nightwish and Lacuna coil or pretty drab and blah.  They may have good lyrical content but I want something thats going to pump me up and get my adrenaline flowing. If Im going to listen to a female fronted band more than likely I will listen to Light this City , Laura has one of the best voices Ive ever heard. I also enjoy Estuary, fu*k the facts, and Some old school Nausea.

I like hardcore and metal bands fronted by women.  Mostly hardcore bands though. Blatz and Walls Of Jericho. I thought it always kicked it up a notch when some of my old favorite punk bands added a female singer, Nausea and Disrupt.

Re: Nightwish/women in metal/rock

I'm not into any of the bands you mentioned but each to their own you know. I do like a couple of women in heavier music and think there should be more of them. It's such a male dominated realm and when the vocals are good i really couldn't care less if it's a man or a woman singing. Some i like are Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), Yasuko Onuki (Melt Banana) and Mel from F*c& The Facts. They're not operatic, more screamy/squealy. I used to like some songs by The Gathering but haven't kept up with what they're doing.

Re: Nightwish/women in metal/rock

Man I'm glad this got bumped. bottlebob, I just hit up Arch Enemy on MySpace and their pretty good. I was surprised that was a woman singing. Good stuff. I might have to procure an album or two.
