hey guys, i need your help, please! my daughter has a laptop that an ex permanently borrowed from his place of employment, which is out of state national guard. now, it definitely was part of a network and has lost it's network connection recently. it is programmed to keep trying to make a connection and there is a connection wizard to walk you thru enabling a different connection. so i've done all that i can see to do and the connection does get enabled, but it does not stay enabled, and the reason it gives is insufficient IP address. so i get an address, don't know how, and the script says it is only renewed for 24hrs...?? so now the 24hrs. have passed and the connection is down again. sooo, could it be that the laptop has somehow been given a message to shut down from the network? and how can i get this to stay connected? any ideas, anyone? juliek
networking connections problem
Hi PurpleOnyx, thanks for the help with that connectivity problem! As of right now, the problem has reconnected and the laptop is running fine. i have a feeling that my daughter's ex is messing with her, and her real connectivity problem is called Kyle. Anyway, when i was trying to figure out the ip address that was provided, i ran it thru dnstuff and weirdly, after clicking on the arin link, i got this memo. now it's 12 yrs. old, but i thought it was kind of interesting. maybe you will too! notice the names and email addresses!!

Is it set up to get an automatic address (ie dynamic)? It sounds like there's a conflict with automatically releasing and renewing. What kind of script is running?
And if it's a military/DOD computer with their settings on it, it's would be a pretty much locked-down computer that you can't do a lot with. From my experience with DOD computers, I think they have their computers set up to receive network data statically.
