My brother-in-law works for a shipping company for major grocers.  Occasionally they have products that are damaged and cannot be sent to the stores, so if it's something his family won't use, they bring it to us.  Right now, I have about 12 cases of canned split-pea soup that I have NO IDEA what to do with.  I know this might be a long-shot, but does anyone have any recipes using split pea soup as a base for something else??  Or know how I can dress it up/change it at all??  We like the soup, but we don't like it enough to eat it for the next 6 months straight...LOL

Oh, and I have about 15 boxes of Bisquick as well, so could use recipe ideas for that, too!  I have a LARGE family, so casseroles are good!  Wink

TIA!

My favorite thing to do with the Bisquick is to make those cheese sausage balls, but I don't have the recipe handy.

I know it's grated cheddar cheese, bisquick and sausage mixed together, formed into balls and baked.  I just usually add my sausage and cheese together, (oh, I also add grated onion), then add the bisquick to make it the right consistency.  I'm very bad at measuring.

Re: Need recipe ideas...migh be a long-shot!

I kept meaning to post here for awhile now and I finally made it.

I am the worst at taking things out of my cupboards and making a meal out of them.

Here is something I actually did not too long ago with Campbell's Split Pea Soup. I was making enchiladas and I went to go get my green chile base I use for the sauce and I couldn't find it. All I could find that was green was that soup.

So, I took the soup, added milk to it, added my cheese, heated it up in the microwave, added my canned pepper mix (it's just a mix of homegrown veggies that we can each year - pablo/ancho/bell/jalapeno/onion/garlic). Threw the mix over the enchiladas, added more cheese on top, baked it, and surprisingly it wasn't that bad.

Funny that you have all of that food. My hubby just brought me cases of Refried Beans and Starkist Tuna.

I know that some people add water to their split pea soup, but I always use milk, it tastes so much better. I absolutely LOVE split pea soup. Lol...wish I had cases of that instead.

I wonder how the soup would be with Polish Sausage in it?

I wonder how it would be if you fried crumbled hamburger or crumbled sausage with onion/garlic/salt/pepper, cubed up and partially boiled white or red potatoes, added 2 cans creamed corn, and the split pea soup and milk and velvetta cheese. If you made it so it wasn't too runny from too much milk, then you would have a casserole. I was thinking sausage and creamed corn to try and overcome the flavor of the pea soup. The boiled potatoes in it would be something else to bite into that would be a different flavor.

I just thought of something different for what I said above. Omit the boiled potatoes completely. Do the mix the same way, put it in your 13x9 pan, then put tator tots on top (standing up so there are more tots) and cheese on top of that and bake. I do my tator tot casserole with cream of chicken soup or mushroom, so why not add a split pea soup to it.

Re: Need recipe ideas...migh be a long-shot!

Sorry, I'm getting this on all my bookmarked sites:

http://allrecipes.com/Search/Ingredients.aspx?WithTerm=&SearchIn=All&Wanted1=pea+soup

I'd definitely try it in the crock pot with a small ham or some pork chops, though, that sounds pretty tasty.

Before I go dig it out, do you have the recipe for the cheddar biscuits similar to the ones served at Red Lobster?  If not, let me know, great use of Bisquick, in my opinion.  I'm pretty sure I even know where my recipe box is!

"You must be", said the cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here"

I suppose I could, although I've never sold anything on Ebay...which probably explains why you can't walk through my garage AND we pay for a storage unit every month...LOL!

Re: Need recipe ideas...migh be a long-shot!

okay, that's a challenge. it is like trying to find a word that rides with month. so i performed a search: "recipes using split pea soup" and several actual soup recipes came up. what i did see was just the basic soup, but with different items added, such as:

  1. split pea w/ham
  2. split pea w/barley
  3. split pea w/potatoes
  4. split pea w/pork chops casserole
  5. split pea w/vegetables
  6. split pea w/rosemary

i'm sure you were hoping for something else, but i hope these help.

LOL...that's what I was thinking when I got the soup!  Any other kind of soup I could probably find or figure out lots of stuff to make, but split pea??  Ughhh...

Great ideas, though -- thanks so much!  My kids are going to despise split pea soup after this...LOL
