Boyfriend and I recently did some wardrobe purging and closet cleaning. We've realized that we both have TONS of 15+ year old concert T-Shirts taking up drawer space, and they've gotta go! Thing is, it seems somehow...sacrilegious to actually part with them, I can't really explain why. Anywho, it leaves me with a pile of close to 40 T-Shirts that I just don't know what to do with! My mother suggested a T-Shirt quilt, but I'm just not in love. I've decided to make throw pillows with some of them, but how many throw pillows does one really need in a 2 room studio? So, what to do with the rest? Anybody have any recycling ideas?

There's some neat ideas in here. I can't add any good new ones, but I just wanted to say that I probably have a hundred or so old shirts... mostly 90's or early 00's metal and rock stuff. I still might wear a couple but for the most part they take up space in a big plastic tote or misc drawers. Like you said, it just didn't seem right to part with them.
well, when i worked for money gram we had to set up a booth for money gram on a grand openning of a store.. They game us these HUGE shirts to wear.. i mean HUGE... so instead of being stuck wearing ugly big o'shirts i made them stylish.. I cut out the sleeves and made slits on two sides with a bunch of little stips.. and made knots all the way down.. everyone liked them so success! maybe you can do the same with the rest.. theyll look like new! =)
heres how they looked...

I've cut around some of the 'important' part of the shirts before and patched them onto things... either sewing or with safety pins (for that punk rocker look lol).... backs of denim jackets... onto my purses... hoodies....... but that was for uber ratty ones... You could also look into 'T-Shirt Reconstruction' or t-shirt surgery.....
I also know a girl who turns concert tees into tube-top shirts or dresses... or sometimes added straps... maybe this would give you some ideas... here's some of her work:
I like! I don't know that my sewing machine and I can get along well enough to pull something like that off, but we can try.

Shouldn't be too hard... looks pretty basic... just straight lines (as far as the sewing goes)... and if you could find a pattern, it'd probably be cake. Looks like the most complicated problem would be making it fitted on the sides... I kinda like how on some of them she added the same material of the straps on the sides...
One thing I've done with some old shirts to make them fitted was to cut right down the center of the back... then make strips out of each side (symmetrical on each side) and then tie each strip to the opposite strip into a knot... it gives it a semi-corset effect... I wouldn't suggest having more than 5 strips that go into knots though... 3 or 4 seems best for me... but if they get too small it kinda makes the shirt less stable... this is also referred to for halter tops or tube tops...
You could probably do that to either side (rather than the back) as well... with smaller strips... if you wanted full on tank tops rather than a halter top..
You could check out This Site for some ideas... or get a book like THIS or THIS...
that's pretty cool... good idea for LadyC

Maybe you can do pillow case in addition to the throw pillows. Or you can use them as seat covers for your car.

Sweet!!! How hot would a concert T-Shirt seat cover look if I picked up an old Camaro or something? I love it!

Yeah and you can fix it up so that one of the logos on a t-shirt is in the center of the headrest and use another for the rest of the seat.

I can see it in my head, and I dig it. Now, I just need that Camaro....
