Just found out that the brown Zune periodically goes back on sale for around a hundred bucks,

EDIT: brown Zune seems to be sold out at all reputable venders.

and that Apple sells the 30Gb video iPod refurbished for about $159.99 and sells the 30Gb U2 edition video iPod new for $199.99.

opinions on these players?

P.S. U2 hate is not a valid opinion related to MP3 players.

Thinking of getting a 4Gb iPod Nano or the new creative Zen, watched and read a bunch of reviews and I'm leaning towards the Zen. The Nano as most of you know is about $150 and I've seen the Zen at about $120, any opinions on either of these flash Mp3 players.

Re: Nano vs. Zen, now brown Zune vs. iPod refurb

...i have the new zen...
...and its just awesome...
...in every possible way...
...its capacity was just bumped up to 32 gb if you need more space...
...i use it for movies and tv shows which i keep on sd cards...
...and music is on the player...
...its just fantastic...
...keeping in mind that creative may be releasing a new player on january 8 at CES...
...so you might want to hold off for a few days...

Re: Nano vs. Zen, now brown Zune vs. iPod refurb

I have a Zen Touch from a few years back which I love and use every day. As this one has lasted so long (despite all the accidents its had with it being dropped and the like) I don;t know waht teh new ones are like. In that time my sisters first ipod broke and her second one has had faults for ages and is now pretty much on its last legs. Zens still going strong Smiling

I'd deff recommend a creative mp3 player from my experience Smiling Sturdy ad built to last unlike other mp3 players *cough*ipod*cough*

Re: Nano vs. Zen

Well we're a house of ipods here. That was my big gift to my boys (3 of them) last year - ipod video's 30gb and they love them. How ever my middle son got his soaking wet and it's now a paperweight. So for Christmas this year I got him one of those Microsoft Zune's 30gb. I would have gone with the ipod again but I couldn't resist the price of the Zune at $99.00. I did get mine on black friday so I also got a really nice black leather case with it for free. How ever you can still get the Zune's for 99.00. Just something to think about. Click here for more info on them (and for the $99.00 deals).

Re: Nano vs. Zen

yeah thanks for pointing that site out, I thought no one was offering that deal anymore, If the brown Zune goes back on sale I'll get one in a heart beat.

I'm now considering a last gen 30Gb iPod which I can get refurbished straight from apple for $159.99, or I can get a new in box last gen U2 edition 30Gb iPod for $199.99 with free shipping, Didn't know apple had those deals before.

The 30GB brown zune for 99.99 is at compUSA this week  and 129.99 at office max or office depot

Re: Nano vs. Zen

I thought I'd add that most of those stores do price matching, as long as it's the same model... so if you take the add from compUSA to another store with the same thing, they'll usually discount it to the same price.... just in case one of those other stores are closer Eye-wink

Re: Nano vs. Zen

yeah I'm definitely getting the zen. I can get the 8 gig for the same price as the 4Gb Nano, I'll replace it in a couple years with the inevitable touch screen MP3 player.

Re: Nano vs. Zen

If you are willing to invest a tad more you can look into the Archos line of MP3 players which have huge numbers of add ons and options (TV recording, camcorder, wifi, and the larger screen)

Re: Nano vs. Zen

yeah they look cool, but I don't think they really suit my needs. Won't use it as a portable video player often so I won't need a huge screen, just for a quick clip every now and then so it won't justify the price, lower capacity and battery life. But if I where considering a touch screen video, MP3 player with wifi those things are a steal in comparison to the iPod touch. The 405 should have a touch screen and web browser, maybe in a year or two they will.

Does zen use any kind of digital rights management?

It seems to be able to use unprotected music files, if thats what you're asking.

Re: Nano vs. Zen

I personnaly have a 4gig sandisk lil monster <Note to all NEVER get one>

I also would lean toward the zen. I do not like the Nano line I have had 3 friends who all have had a problem with their battery.
