Myspace profile requiring Authentication??

Ok so ever seen a myspace that required Authentication when you go to view it? I was logged on and when I went to view this profileI got a pop up "Authentication Required". It looks like a band type of myspace but I dunno. Now I just clicked cancel on the "Authentication Required" and it still let me thru. Just thought this was strange. Here is a screen shot of it:

Anyone ever seen this before? Is it maybe a band thing or a new myspace thing? I found this via a Gaia private message from this person. I could ask him about it but wondering if anyone else has seen this before?

edit: I removed the link since this myspace does belong to a minor.

I'm not quite sure that i'm posting in the right place,but, i keep getting the page that says too many log-in attempts have failed and my email address and password were required to log on. There was also a captcha.now the weird thing was that this was happening on all of my profiles, and some i had not even tried to log on to them at all. the next weird thing was i viewed the page source, it was unlike any that i had ever seen. I was wondering if some one could tell me how i could identify if this is a phishing site? would someone use div overlays to do this? i have not tried to log on yet,does anyone think it would be alright if i did? thanks for the help. i/m at a loss here...julek

Ive been having the same thing happen the past 2 days. im not entirely sure whats causing it, though I have some ideas. My suggestion is to check your running process list and make sure you recognize everything being run. Also, run your anti spy and adware programs as well as a full system virus scan. i did all of this, then rebooted and seem to be doing ok now. I have also stopped opening emails without scanning them first- just an idea.

Thanks AE. What do you mean by my running process list and how do i know if everything is being run ? do i compare things on the view source page with the potential phishing page? and will something extra be on the view source page?

Not the source page on myspace. hit ctrl+alt+delete and bring up your task manager on your computer. Check out the running process list- when you are on that myspace page. See if anything odd shows on that list, something you dont recognize.

I got that pop up too on one of my friend's myspace. I just clicked cancel and it went away. I wonder whats up with it??

OK well I asked him and this is what he said (I did edit his reply to remove some things in his post because he is a minor):

lol i unno i added this guy who does techno music and well, thats when i got it but i cant get rid of it but im looking into that, (edit was here) the same thing happend to me on my last but tom wouldnt listen to me, sooo yea, im working on that it has to do with user adds, when you click their add to a friend it sends it, but it looks different than last time :S but im looking into it more but thank you for your help ( ITS NOT MY DOING THOUGH :S )

SO then I typed in "wartungsarbeiten" which was also on the pop up. Well it's in German. SO I translated it and well it didn't make any sense to me. You can read the translation here

Anyone seen this??? FYI this is a 16 yr old kid and well you know me my mom side kicks in with protecting the kids out there. So any helps I'm sure he would appreciate the help.

Maybe the boy knows more than he is letting on. (but, it is also likely that he doesn't.) just my opinion.

My first thought I had while reading the msg he sent back to you, was noticing the grammar the 16 year old used. Sounds like that type of language. (but probably just a scriptkiddy) Like I said, I could be wrong and I surely don't want to label someone as something, it is just the first impression I got.

Besides the grammar, I find his reply more defensive than what the normal reply should have probably been--perhaps such as: "I have no idea, whoever did this may have messed up my band page." (I am not a pychologist, but just giving some non-technical advice.)

But, in either case, I also think it is strange.

Well I can explain that - when I first posted it I posted his URL. Stupid me not thinking that out I removed it - he is only 16 yrs old. I sent him the link to the forum and that message was his reply to me. In past messages he is very friendly. Also I edited the message he sent to me for privacy reasons ( notice above where it says edited) so it's a little out of context.

Well I did get a answer from Hubby (I gave him his URL) and this was it:

Hey CROM monkey, don't take offense. I didn't know it was your profile in discussion. I thought it was a random person because I didn't fully grasp the situation perhaps. (funny to over-analyze yet not grasp situations at the same time--so, once again I am laughing at myself)

My guess its that pic is hosted on a personal server and the permissions are set up wrong.

If you want a conspiracy - it may designed to track in a limited form.

There is probably a pic hosted in your comments or elsewhere that is being hosted on a personal server with, as a coworker states, "Authentication Issues".

Don't ask me to explain that, just find the offending inserted pic and remove.
