Teenager nabs mugger via MySpace

Teenager nabs mugger via MySpace

From iTNews

A New York teenager has tracked down the boy who mugged her by using MySpace to start an online relationship with the criminal..

Yudelka Polanco, 16, had her mobile phone snatched by two teenagers while walking home.

However, one of the muggers used the phone's Sim card to get internet access and revealed his email address.

Polanco used the information to find his MySpace page but it was kept private for friends only. She convinced a friend to start flirting with the boy so that she could access his full page and get enough information for the police to act.

"I told her to request him because his page was private information so I could get a better picture of him," she told CBS News.

The two amateur sleuths then went to the police who were able to arrest 16 year-old Victor Hernandez. The youth is accused of a series of muggings in the area.

Re: Teenager nabs mugger via MySpace

as a matter of fact ihad a similar scenario, about a month back, i had this personal credit card, that my pap got me 4 my b day, it had a $300 limit, well someone who was a friend, hijacked it, and bruteforced the pin, (i have yet to find out how, i never chaneged it, i used the one the credit card comapany sent me,) well 2 days later, and after the card was maxed, i find it laying on my porch, and the comany called my pap, said the spending spiked, well he freaked, and since i had nuthin 2 to show for $250 spent, i went 2 my friends house, cause i realized that it only disapeared after he left, so i went over his house 2 find a brand new ps2, and a few ps2 games, well parents wer dumbfounded to all his "newly given gifts" and his dumbass kept receipts, so i pressed charges, and he was forced to hand over all the stuff he bought to me, and pay off my card, to which i stil have, and still with a $300 balance,

The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked

Some people don't realize the information you sent out when you use a cell phone. I got my purse stolen and the dumb guys used my cell phone several times. I had the phone numbers they called and location. Thanks Dagastino, that's good she was smarter than them. (=

OH I agree some theifs are stupid.  At Christmas time someone stole my Discover card # (not the card but the card number).  Well 9k later I got a phone call from Discover - ummm no not me.  They asked me if I wanted to press charges - OH H@ll yes I did.  I was shocked when she said that 1/2 don't ever want to press charges.  Discover card remove the charges - which were all online but get this the idiot payed his bills with my card.  Yeah paid his electric bill and phone bill. OK how stupid can you be?  Discover sent me some papers to sign and they are prosecuting them - idiots.

interesting read Dagastino, thanks for sharing it. imho, a cellphone is not worth the potential outcome in a situation like this especially since the mugger thief has a history of crime already. i'm going to share this story w/my teen, however i will also give her the other scenario outcome which could have led to a much worse situation had the criminal been extremely violent. a few bucks a month for cellphone insurance and a police report would net a new phone much safer and quicker.

That story is hilarious and scary at the same time. I love the fact that the girls were able to do something..but on the other hand, a 16-year-old that is a known criminal??wow. scary.

Re: Teenager nabs mugger via MySpace

That is wonderful news.  Too bad she was not a GUGee, that would have been wonderful PR.
