Based on what you describe, it's likely that it is a loose or broken cable or connecter between the body and the screen. This could also be caused by the vertical green line.
And yes, it's fixable - although not necessarily easy (or cheap!). In many cases the cost of a new Macbook is only slightly less than a whole new one - sometimes the repair cost can be MORE than a new one! This is because they may need to replace the entire upper-screen assembly.
I would take it to a place that at least claims to know how to work on Macs - many (if not all) Mac replacement parts are only available to authorized Apple Repair Dealers, so you might want to call first and ask. A quick Google on "apple authorized service provider in my city" (but, put your actual city) should let you know where to start. Of course, the local Apple store would also be happy to help.

it's a power saving thing. if you're running windows, click on your Start menu, then Settings, then Control panel, then Power options. you can then set the timers, including "turn off monitor," for whatever you wish. if you're not on a windows PC then look for wherever your power settings are. you can also usually set this in the BIOS when you cold boot, but it's easier for most people to just do it in the operating system so don't worry about that unless you can't find any other way to do it.

Hi there people I cant find any other way to stop it from doing it while playing games like Battlefield 2, etc. I am running Windows XP Professional and despite trying :
1) Right click on mouse anywhere on main screen
2) Left click on "Properties"
3) Left click on "Screen Saver" tab
4) Left click on "Screen Saver" Scrool down menu and select NOne
5) Left click on "Apply" button
6) Left click on "Power" button in Power Option section
7) Left click on "Turn off Monitor" Scroll menu and set to "Never"
8 ) Left Click on "Apply" button
or doing this through My Computer: The Control Panel either.
Could it be an old graphics card maybe? All those games used to work sweet on the same one and my older card too.
Thanks for your continuing support
PC problems are a NiGhTmArE!!! XD
There isn't any burning electronics smell,is there?
You are more likely to replace your computer 5 times before you ever need to change your monitor but they do eventually break down and a monitor that is short circuting might look like it is "going into sleep mode"
It's actually the CRT not getting enough power that makes the screen "pop off" and the CRT trying to draw the power that makes it "pop on" and if you are EM sensitive like me you can feel the the 50,000 volts flickering back and forth if it is doing that on a failing Monitor
A circut breaker in some models will prevent the Crt from keep from trying to draw it's 50,000 volts repedatively which leads to the burning electronics smell which then can lead to monitor explosion and/or fire by just turning the monitor into Sleep mode
If your monitor is turning of for no appartent reason, after checking the settings on the computer and on the monitor, it may not be good already
Have you tried all the things already posted in this thread?
Is it a laptop or a desktop monitor?
Is it Windows or a Mac?
What version of Windows or OS X (if a Mac) ?
I'm having similar problems. Monitor goes to sleep randomly and only comes back on when I press the "Sleep" buttom on the keyboard. It's getting rediculous. I have set my Power Settings to NEVER in all cases and have turned off the screen saver but it doesn't seem to "fix" the problem. Downloaded and installed the current drivers for my video adapter and checked the cabel connections. Still "No Joy."
Any ideas?
AMD Athlon 64 X 2 processor

Does it only go to sleep after you havnt touched the computer for some amount of time, or does it ever sleep while you are actually using the computer?

I have the same problem about my monitor going into sleep mode. I checked the timer for the screen saver it says 10 minutes but my monitor goes into sleep mode every 30 seconds or so. Very annoying. Help please.
hey guys similar problem! 10 minutes into playing the games nfs underground 2 and ninja blade my monitor goes to sleep and i have to reset my pc to fix it. Does anyone have a solution? I have xp and i have already checked power settings and made the boxs 'never'.
Every 10 minutes?
YOu might want to check to see that your computer has the latest drivers for your monitor
Some monitors consider outdated drivers or no drivers as "no contact" with the computer and that can trigger their sleep or power off feature ("Smart monitors" are stupid that way)
