So I really really want to get a tattoo. I'm a baby especially when it comes to pain so what is the best place to get a tattoo where it doesn't hurt. Some people have told me that other parts hurt worse than others. Also should I start off small go big and get it out of the way?
My experienced Tattooers
It does feel like bee stings, or cat scratches.
It was the most erotic pain I've ever in my life felt, seriously. I have a "tramp stamp", a butterfly on my lower back. I remember when he was doing some of the design right in the center, I involuntarily spasmed....I guess it was because he was hitting nerves? We laughed about it. He had a heavy hand though......I've heard that can make a world of difference for your tat experience......whether they are heavy or light handed.
I most def. will be getting more.......of course I have 100 different little things I want...now I'm trying to figure how to collaborate them all together.
i think it truly depends on the individual and their own threshold for pain. i love all of my ink. most are over really thick fleshy areas, or muscle. my exception is across my lower back, side-to-side and over my spine....hurt like a mother-heffer! not a lot of skin or muscle there, and, i'm a skinny beeotch so it really hurt
!
i would imagine over the top of the foot (the instep) would be a bit on the painful side. it has just been my experience that the bonier the area, the more painful it was to me.
whatever you get, i would love to see it. so please post a pic!
Tuna...the other white meat!
Ideally, muscles is typically going to hurt the least. Muscles that doesn't contain large bundles of nerves underneath it. Like the calves for the most part.
My chest cap wasn't all that bad until we got right on the sternum and over some scar tissue where I had shoulder surgery, however the one down my back wasn't pleasant because the muscles contains a lot of nerves.
All in all though, I say get it where you want, deal with the pain as it's only temporary and it's hard to say for sure since everyone has a different tolerance for certain things. But it's going to be there for a while so you better make sure you like where it's at, pain or not. The pain goes away, the ink won't.
Hey,
I have 2 tattoos one on my shoulder and the other on my outer ankle, i barely felt the one on my shoulder... the one on my ankle just in some places but I have to say not really painful at all! I want to get a butterfly on my lower back next but want to wait till after the summer. What were u thinking of getting?
Good Luck I'm sure you'll do fine
I have a Tigger tattoo on my pelvis. The guy who did mine said that's one of least painful places to get a tat, and I agree. It really didn't hurt that much, except for when he was doing some of the darker outlining lines and he pressed a little harder. The skin started to get tender about 45 minutes into from all the wiping of the ink with the paper towel. Other than that, piece of cake!
it's true that some parts hurt worse than others, though.
the two tats I have on the back of each shoulder (not the blade, the part more near the arm and not directly on top of a bone) hardly hurt at all. those were the easiest places for me.
the tat on my boobie hurt in one particular spot; there must have been a nerve 'cause it felt like shocks through my body. i'm rather small, though, so a more voluptuous woman might have a better experience.
the one on my outer thigh hurt throughout most of the tattooing process. my friend had to hold my hand. and I have a decent pain tolerance.
the most painful places to get a tat, from what I've heard from others: neck, wrist, foot, ankle, spine, base of back.
hope that's helpful
I have various tattoos as well, and definitely some parts hurt a lot worse than others. The small broken heart on my chest really hurt! Also, on my collar bone hurt through my entire head....seriously. And on my bicep, even though it didn't hurt too bad, got really bruised.

Throw the donkey a waffle. C'mon you know you want to... No? You hate donkeys, don't you?
Whewww... both of mine on the inside felt like damn bees were stining me the whole time... course im allergic to pain too LMFAO!!!!
Does anyone know any tatt artists that do ink in the Grey Scale??
I seriously want to get a new tatt done on my back... but I want it in grey scale..... and these retartedd inbred F@cks here in podunkville dont even know what the hell im talking about soooo... no new tatt yet...
Damn...... this will make 10 tatts if I can ever get it done
What were You thinking?!!
I didn't think the wrists or elbow hurt at all. The first session on my elbow he hit an area that shot vibrations down my arm to my hand. But every other time he's hit it has been fine. The chest however is the closest I've ever been to asking him to stop. I don't think the spine was that bad. My second tattoo runs the length of my spine and it took one six hour session to fill it in. The only breaks we took were when he shook his hand to keep it from cramping. My chest though won't ever get touched up again. Maybe.......

Yea I already know who I'm going too. Guy does great work and is very clean. My hubby has got many tats from him. He's pretty much dedicated to him no matter what the price is because of all of the concerns out there. I don't want the normal tats but pictures of my kids faces. See the problem I have is 3 kids 2 arms where do I put the third face. I was thinking about getting one kid on each arm. Then surprise another little bundle of joy came along so I'm stuck. I don't really want a tattoo on my back because I do want it visible to others. I don't really want anything on my legs because yet again Chicago has cold weather about literally 9 months out of the year. So here I am stuck and my arms aren't big at all so I don't know if it would really look right. My hubby tells me it doesn't hurt but I don't believe him because he'll tell me whatever to get me to do something. That's why I asked to start out with something small just to see if the pain is at least bearable. lol See child birth you can take the pain away with drugs this your just stuck with pain. hehe
You could do a quarter sleeve of all three kids. Maybe in a triangular or circular type pattern. The arm won't be too bad as long as you don't go up on the top of the shoulder where the bone is. Toward the arm pit will get sensitive but it's got to be nothing compared to birth. Also, I think the body part goes a tad numb during the process.
The only problem with a small tattoo is that the detail is smaller and the pattern is tighter. Tattoos can spread over time. On a small detailed tattoo that equals get blurry and mushy. Big tattoo with some space between the lines will hold up better over time. Using sunblock once the tattoo heals will help keep it from fading.
Maybe instead of there faces you could do something that reminds you of them. I did two hearts on my wrists. One has my daughter's date of birth the other has her initials. Get creative. A guy I knew had two kids and had there favorite stuffed animals from childhood tattooed on him.

I have to agree with p here. I am a complete wuss when it comes to pain. Total baby. Tattoos aren't that bad, you do go numb, and it doesn't take all that long. The first few minutes, though.... Still, less painful than a belly ring, IMO.
Ditto on the detail part. That's something I wish I had thought out better, my butterfly is on my right hip, and the definition in the wings has definitely blurred over time.
"How do you know I'm mad?" asked Alice.
"You must be", said the cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here"
The tattoo should fit the body part. If it's a small body part get a small tattoo and if it's a big spot etc.... I agree that some spots are worse than other. My chest was the worst. Ribs are bad. On my calf I almost fell asleep. It was the least painful. The wrists were surprisingly easy. Most of the arm is ok. Once you get to the arm pit or the elbow area it sucks. But as always the pain is worth it. Now for the important part. Make sure the artist own an autoclave and uses it. Have them show you the sterilized packs before they open it. Most will do this for a first tattoo. Make sure you don't plan to go swimming for a while after. You can't soak them. Do you have a design? Make sure you stew over it for a while. I usually think on it for about 6 months to a year. I've actually changed my mind after 6 months of thinking it was a good idea. Good luck.

edit to add: Also make sure the artist tattoos in the style you want. Look through their portfolio and make sure the style they use fits your design. You don't want a person who only does gray scale portraits to do your full color Japanese half sleeve. At least that's my opinion.
