this is probably nothing that everyone else doesn't already know but I've found a pretty good alternative to using any P2Ps in audacity. With audacity you can make a digital "copy" of any audio that you can play through your computer. so rather than dealing with paying for downloads and needing to worry about viruses and copyright stuff you can go to Imeem or whatever and then record a song while playing it then you can export as an mp3 or wav or whatever you wanna do. it is however a much slower process since you have to acctually sit through the duration of the song... but that's my 2 cents worth anyway
music without "stealing"
I have used the internet music search engine called www.songza.com with the Firefox addon called DownloadHelper in conjunction. The file that you select to play is downloaded to the hard drive. DownloadHelper was originally created to easily download youtube type videos from the net, but it will download alot of media types. The creators state that their program just makes it easier to access the file for downloading, and the program does NOT do anything out of the ordinary to access the file. Anyway I guess it's legal.
hehe,
Suddenly had a flashback to when I used to hold the tape recorder up to the Radio to record a song I like.
Mp3MyMp3 is Freeware that can rip whatever plays though the computer soundboard thus allowing you to record songs from Youtube and Myspace or internet radio.
Another thought, if you are going to do things the long way, is to get a Mp3 recorder/player like the Truly Ultra that can record off of it's FM tuner, record from a line in (cd,tape, phono) and even record "voice messages" via it's built in mic plus besides regular memory of 256mb (yes, my baby is old) it also has a slot that takes up to 512mb SD cards so you can swap them out like "Albums" (unlike most Ipods that have fixed internal memory)
Take that Ipod, as my mom's one could also play games and display Pictures, read downloaded e-mails or even textfiles/pdfs 2 years before you were an itch in Steve Job's pants and both my mom's and my Truly also are usable as fully functional "jump drives"/Flash Drives for all computer files...lol (mom'a one takes up to 1 gb SD cards)
That's just me babbling. Your help is appreciated, i'm sure there's people who didn't know about this possibility yet. My only comment is that it's still not legal when the materials are copyrighted. But copyrighted or not, sometimes you can't download audio from a website or the files are encrypted and then this can be a good alternative.
Well i'd hate to say it, but that is still violating copywright laws. If you record a song that wasn't paid for, no matter how you do it, it's conciderd stealing. Although it's alot harder to get caught this way. lol.

*If you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything*
The copywrite law is only actully broken if you copy then sell the copy.
The "no copying without permission from the original owner" doesn't apply to music broadcast over the airwaves or such as the radio stations already paid to make the broadcast and if you hapen to recorded to listen to it later you can keep the recording for "personal use"
Sometimes the "no public use without permision" is also claused in, but that only legally pertains to businesses or organizations throwing a block party or charity event or whatever and not a individual throwing a party at his/her house and the song happens to be loud enuogh for everyone at the party to hear.
Honestly, a cd single is what..99cents to $3? If you like enough of the songs of the Artist just buy the CD...otherwise all the "freebies" will make the Artist go on skid row and you'll never hear from him/her again...lol
