MP3 Devices....
Submitted by animestrinity on April 30, 2008 - 3:44pm.
Okay, I'm thiiiiinking of falling into the gap... and getting an mp3 player... (that kinda started out like that freecreditreport.com commercial, I'm thiiinking of a number... lol) I hate that commercial... anyway, back to mp3 players... I've never really wanted one or felt the need for one... but I wanna new toy to play with... but since I never cared about them, I have no idea what's out there aside from iPods... and I don't want one of those. So I wanna know what you guys suggest... here's what I'm going for:
So... Suggestions? Help? Anything? Re: MP3 Devices....

Well the headphone crisis is solved... I'm now sporting some skull candy earbuds that are uber comfy... pink too... I think I'm going to pick up the matching over the ear headphones too because I like the ability to drop my headphones around my neck... maybe I'll even get the super full sized ones too... I'm also trying out a small 1GB zen (aquired) and I'm liking wandering around with an MP3 player while I'm by myself... makes me less approachable and I feel less awkward being by myself... but it doesn't have enough space for me, nor a display... so I'm looking at Zunes... Which I've found I can pick up a 30 GB refurbished one for the same price as a new 4 GB one... so I'm debating... I don't NEED that much space, but if I'm gonna shell out that amount anyway... eh.. we'll see... so here's the headphones I have and will have... (they're actually the same color) Also wanted to say these have some super quality sound too...

These pink ones are very noticeable and that would suit my purpose when I really don't want to feel pressure to stop and talk to any neighbors. Some days when there are people out waving me down, I can't keep running long enough to even sustain an aerobic HR. Skull Candy, huh? And I can do pink. If I can wear SpongeBob boxers as running shorts, I can wear pink earbuds. Maybe not on the same day. Re: MP3 Devices....

Both of those types make my ears hurt after 5 minutes.. 17-hour long flights are pretty boring so husband-of-mine relies heavily on his tunes & handheld games to kill the time. the last thing he wants is 17-hrs of in flight noise and interference. his choice, Shure E5c's. they offer a fine line of ear friendly *comfort* and sound quality listening devices.

I've had great service from Shure. I have always been able to quickly get all issues taken care of. They are one of the good companies that still take care of their customers. I use a Shure P4T wireless transmitter, P4R receiver, and E5 in-ear monitors. I've had that setup for a few years. The in-ears would work for mp3 but I don't like to be plugged up if I don't have to be. And for mics, I use my trusty Shure SM57's! Re: MP3 Devices....

Both of those types make my ears hurt after 5 minutes... I'm thinking about trying the marshmallow ones... but I dunno... I too am bothered by headsets that rest over or behind the ear. And studio headphones? Ugh. I've spent hours with Sony 7506 sets on and it's terrible. Re: MP3 Devices....

I dunno why they hurt, I don't wedge them in my ears... just put them on juuuust enough so that they don't fall out every time I breathe.... 5 minutes later and my ears feel like they're gonna fall off... I actually prefer the full sized headphones as opposed to earbuds, but how silly would I look with a tiny mp3 device and gargantuan headphones? it's supposed to be compact and portable... not need a suitcase of it's own in order for me to listen to my mp3 player. Those E5 ones are discontinued... but I'll look around a bit... I guess I don't need earbuds until I get the mp3 player, huh? :) .·:·.·:·.·:·.· Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

Ok so dare I say (don't shoot me) what about the blue tooth headphones? Less bulk and no wires. Another option would be the clip on headphones kinda like these (my son has these - same exact ones and loves them):
my little guy can't wear the ear buds but loves these. You can pick them up at just about any drugstore or discount store. Earbuds I find it depends on the brand. Some are just HUGE or there too long and fit to deep in the ear. So far the best ones I have found *ok gasp yes you heard me right hubby and tuna* is apples. Even my kids (two older ones) agree on this one.

have you heard of audiogon? they have a great forum for high end audio goods, new, used, and auctions as well. husband-of-mine spends about as much time on there as i do here. Tuna ><((((*> the other white meat! Re: MP3 Devices....

I had some Sony earbuds that I liked well. The case was similar to that one and it's real handy. They were ruined in a downpour when I was running in my neighborhood. They sounded just as good as a more expensive pair of Sennheisers which started to crackle out when my ears weren't filled with water. Right now, I'm using the old Creatives that came with my MUVO Re: MP3 Devices....

I agree with the i-pod thing, they seem to be very faulty and unreliable and the software is a pain. If you want to use it on more than one computer don't bother! From my experience I would say go with creative, their products tend to be robust and built to last, some have excellent battery life (mine seems like it goes forever without charging). The software is also easy to use but you don't have to use it you can drag and drop which is really handy. I think they'll have something that will be great for what you want and I kind of like how they look. Some of their products do look great but they go much more on quality product than a design to get the attention. Re: MP3 Devices....

These things are changing all the time. I'm all for a straight mp3 player. I've got a large well-organized collection of mp3's most at 192+ bitrate. I don't own an "i" anything - "i" haven't needed it. Most mp3 players are simply "drag and drop". No special software to install. You can drag organized folders or individual files. Look for this in a player: AA or AAA battery powered. DO NOT get a rechargable that you can't use regular batteries with in a pinch. Onboard equalizer is a must. Enough memory or one that uses flash memory cards that you already own. Finally, check online reviews to see if the one you are looking at sounds good. Earbuds are less intrusive than bulky headphones, many sets sound really well. More $$ doesn't necessarily mean better sound. again - check some on-line reviews. I use my Palm T-5 as my serious mp3 player (PocketTunes application) but as a regular throw-around player, my 1GB Creative MUVO TX FM is still going strong. Not a pretty graphical interface - small 2-color LED with a buried, linear menu. It does what it does very well. The MUVO's "brain" slides out from the battery housing and plugs directly into a USB port. NO CABLE. Doubles as a flash drive. In XP, no drivers or the even the included software are necessary. Great sound, small, comes with an armband. It's not waterproof, but mine has survived several downpours. Downside is the interface is small and there is a full-featured menu but it is a scroll-type. It's made to listen to and not to play with. Again... it does what it does well. Re: MP3 Devices....

I got the ex a fourth gen 30 gig in black, and I can't be like him... because I'm awesome... and he's not. I don't like iPods anyway... they're overrated, not to mention wayyyy too many people have them. .·:·.·:·.·:·.· Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

If you want to stick with a big name like Apple, there's always its competitor--Microsoft's Zune. I have an iPod while my hubby has a Zune. . .and we both like our mp3 players equally For something cheaper, my friend has a Sansa mp3 player. I think it's around 4 GB. Re: MP3 Devices....

I've been... dare I say it... redirected! lol... thanks 2na... I'll sort through that thread when I have some time... right now I gotta go refresh my brain on precal for my test tomorrow... speaking of buying gadgets though, I juuuust bought (like less than an hour ago) a pink TI-84 plus graphing calculator... mostly because it was pink... and somewhat for my test since I don't have a boyfriend with one to steal anymore. It's so sexy... .·:·.·:·.·:·.· Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
