Motorola Razor

Motorola Razor

I have had my Motorola Razor for a few months now and I'm having problems with old Text Messages not deleting!!!! It says the text is locked and it's not or it will say Operation Failed. I bought the phone online, so there is no warranty and Alltel said they can not do anything about it... anyone else having these problems or know how to fix it???

Re: Motorola Razor

i haven't personally used either of those phones, but i'd strongly advise anyone to pick their carrier first and then their phone. you said that the phone deals you got are from different carriers. do research on those different carriers and decide, independent of their phone choices, which carrier you want.

i live in a major city but only one carrier here has good coverage. when i got my first cell phone i didn't know there was any big difference between the major carriers and i went with ATT because they had the phone i wanted. i was then stuck in a contract with them even though i couldn't get any coverage in my own home and couldn't make or receive calls. as soon as my contract was up i switched to verizon (after doing research on which carrier was best where i live/work/travel).

all these years later i've never had a problem with verizon service but my friends who have ATT still can't get service 50% of the time when they are outside and never can get service indoors. the phone i really want is on ATT but the best phone is no good if you can't use it to make and receive calls. just to be clear, my experience applies to where i live, but certainly ATT or another carrier that doesn't work here may be the best choice somewhere else. so i would suggest you do some research on the carriers who serve your area and decide on a carrier before you decide on a phone.

Re: Motorola Razor

When looking at the text message is there an options button. If so see if there is an "unlock" under that. if it requires a code try 1234. that's default  on lots of stuff or 0000 (zeros).

Re: Motorola Razor Review

I am trying to decide what new cellphone I am going to get. I got a killer deal in the mail for an offer for MotoRazr V3a w/bluetooth

Does anyone have this phone? What do you think about this phone? TIA

Re: Motorola Razor Review

I have this exact phone and I have had great luck with it. It's a year old so it has a few well loved scratches but still looks shiny and awesome.

More importantly, it functions well. It has a nice size screen, and it displays web pages nicely.

One con, I might say is that the numbers have this metal(?) type overlay over the numbers that sometimes scratch or come loose - seriously, i'm thinking ... sticker??  It's kind of weird, but does not affect fuctionality.

I'd get it again, but honestly, I'd probably upgrade to the Motorola Razr 2 V8.

Re: Motorola Razor Review

I had a V3i - unlocked "international" version.  Used it for a year and the ringer speaker went bad.  I don't think it was a widespread quality problem, just one of those things.  I loved the phone.  I loved the design, the size, and the feel.  I replaced it with a Moto L7 SLVR which is a thin non-flip phone with a smaller number pad.  It was another unlocked, overseas version I bought new off of an eBay seller.  I have ATT and was able to use my existing SIM card on both non-ATT provided phones.

You'll like the RAZR... good reception, sturdy as long as you don't trash it around.  My wife has a V3 going on 4 years.  She's like me, she doesn't have to have the latest and greatest.

So the RAZR is a great phone.  It must be - look at how long the design has lasted!

And about my Moto SLVR... I like it OK.  I need small and powerful.  But besides having a sucky camera, the overseas L7 has a couple of quirks.  There was a small text symbol glitch common to overseas L7's which I fixed with a "seem edit" using a hexadecimal editor and a seem loading application.  It was a bit of a pain, but now I know how to to seem edits.

And there are some words that are spelled in Continental English style like "Message Centre" and 'Dialled Calls".  The voice recognition thing requires you to speak in a British accent.  No joke.  I have a western Kentucky accent and I think the first time I tried setting up the voice thing, the lady's voice in the phone was giggling at me.  I just use single # speed dial anyway.  Those spelling and speech quirks can be fixed with hardware flashes, but I didn't bother.

Anyway (it took a while to get to this)... here's the thing about Moto phones in particular..  look very closely at what you will be allowed to do with a carrier-provided phone after you sign with a plan.  Among the questions...

  • Will you be able to load your own mp3 ringtones?
  • Will a friend be able to bluetooth you their ringtones?
  • Is the software included to allow you to manage your contacts and media with a web interface?  If not included, will Motorola's PC application work with your phone?
  • Will you be allowed to connect your phone to a computer via USB data cable for battery charging and also to use it as flash storage like it was designed?

Believe it or not, some carriers actually disable some or all of those features on their Moto phones in their plan.  Many providers want to continue to "serve" you after you sign a contract and they do this by allowing you to use only THEIR ringtones purchased from THEM and not allowing data cable hookup and transfer.

Motorolas V's and L's are superb phones provided their features are not locked out.  The Motorola management software interface called "Motorola Phone Tools" is to die for.  Anything in your phone can be accessed and managed on your PC - ringtones, contacts, calendar, media.  I would not have a phone that I couldn't manage with a PC interface.  MPT is rated as one of the best.

So when it's time, I'll probably get another SLVR or RAZR because of their size.  Unlocked, overseas version of course so my southern accent is again ridiculed by that British chick inside the phone.

Re: Motorola Razor Review

Wow that is good information Stevie.  I would've never thought of asking the questions you suggested. Thanks again Smile

Ok it's down to the wire. My killer deal expires this week for the MotoRazr V3a phone.......BUT........the other day I got another killer deal in the mail from another cellphone company offering a Samsung A437.

If you had to pick which phone, which one would you pick? I can't decide. I've always used nokia. TIA!

Re: Which phone would you choose?

I have one more day to decide.....does anyone have any suggestions for the phone that I should choose?

MotoRazr V3a     -vs-    Samsung A437

TIA! Kiss

Re: Which phone would you choose?

I read some not so good reviews of the Samsung so I'd go with the Razr. That hurts to say because I love Samsung and don't like Motorola however it seems to be the better phone. Neither would be my first choice but it's not my choice. Good luck with your decision.

I don't want to die without any scars.

Re: Motorola Razor

I would recommend you take it your provider so they can reset the whole function of the phone. I used to work for a phone company and I was one of the tester for the Motorola Razor. I had came across a couple of problems just like yours and all we did was reset everything. It works! I'm not to sure how other phone companys work around your area.
