Re: monitor help

thank u for all your help

Re: monitor help

no

Re: monitor help

Ok, unless someone else has any idea, I will have to get back to you on this. I will do some research on this and post when I find something, probably by tomorrow. I hope that the electricity incident didn't damage your computer.

Re: monitor help

If the HD's and CD rom are still working the video card is blown

Re: monitor help

Take a known good video card---drivers and all---and place it in the bad computer. If it works, then you will know the other video card it is the culprit.

Re: monitor help

i havent really done anything i had left my computer on before i went to bed and my screen saver was on but during the night my electric went out so when i woke up my compurer was off so i went to turn it on and thats when i saw my problem

Re: monitor help

Are you using a qualified power surge protector?

Re: monitor help

my mouse and keyboard r plugged in. but yea i i cant use them and my monitor did work on my other computer so it isnt the monitor i had a spelling error earlier when i said it didnt work

Re: monitor help

What OS do you have and have you made any recent changes at all to your computer? What was the last thing you did before this started?

Re: monitor help

ok thanx

Re: monitor help

Now that we have determined that it is in sleep mode and needs to be woke up, you should just be able to jiggle your mouse and wake the system up...but your mouse is not working.

Are you sure you have the mouse plugged into the green port on the back of the computer, and the keyboard into the purple port? (unless you are using usb ports-which are not colored green and purple as you probably know.)

As far as the modem, the ethernet will go down while in sleep mode. It should wake up along with the computer.

The settings in display are probably set to 1 minute probably.

Re: monitor help

it doesnt even go to a screen before trhe message is there

Re: monitor help

Ok, I found something on the web. It tells about messages...

Special messages display on the monitor screen for the following monitor conditions:
  • Input Signal Out of Range: Indicates the monitor does not support the input signal because the resolution and/or refresh rate are set higher than the monitor supports. For w20 and w22 monitors, set the resolution and refresh rate for 1680 x 1050 at 60 Hz. Restart your computer for the new settings to take effect.
  • Monitor Going to Sleep: Indicates the screen display is entering a sleep mode.
  • Check Video Cable: Indicates a video input cable is not properly connected to the computer or monitor.
  • OSD Lock: When the OSD is locked, the warning message OSD Lock displays for 10 seconds. To lock or unlock...

So this is what it is. Now we need to get it to not do this on bootup. I will get back to you.

Re: monitor help

i hooked up my monitor to the other computer but it still didnt work

Re: monitor help

ok, you used the monitor in question on another system and it didn't work? That is an indication that the monitor is the problem. I assume both systems use the same drivers for monitor/video?

Normally, if there is a problem with the monitor cable, then it will

1.not work period,

2.make weird colors on screen like a dominent yellowish tint--usually when a pin is missing,

3.cause a message saying that there is no signal in a floating box usually until the cable is properly connected.

But the computer would have to have video (monitor) if you are seeing an actual windows message saying the "monitor is going to sleep."

After gathering all the information provided so far, this has got to be a power management issue with a possible suspect faulty monitor. But I lean more to the power management. Go into control panel and display and set it to never hybernate, stand by, etc..and even screen saver.

Re: monitor help

Do you have another monitor you could hookup? Also this happend to me once when I tryed to install more ram I unplugged somthing and got a similar occurence.

Re: monitor help

oh yea another thing when i turn the modem on it doesnt make the sound of like its turing on but like when its in like stand by mode u kno what im saying

Re: monitor help

well i checked the monitor and it works on my computer and im pretty sure all the cables are working also how do i go into safe mode?

Re: monitor help

I'm assuming you are using xp. Before you get to the blue screen of death, press F8 quickly during boot up.

Re: monitor help

i cant cause the screen wont even turn on it goes straight to that message

Re: monitor help

I'm suggesting alot of possibilities that you may have overlooked during stress of the computer situation.

Can you boot into safe mode during the first few seconds of turning on the computer?

Have you recently replaced a video card?

There may be a hardware problem with the computer. The monitor may be going to sleep because of no signal---are you sure the cables to the monitor are good? Sometimes, it's easy to overlook the "small" things. Check the cable, and cable pins.

EDIT: take that "bad" monitor and try to use it with a "known working computer" and if the monitor still doesn't work then you can suspect the monitor itself.

Re: monitor help

it says monitor going to sleep

Re: monitor help

I'm assuming you are using windows xp...go to control panel, appearance and themes, display, screen saver, click on power and set to never. Try that

Re: monitor help

yea the screen is blank and when i turn the modem on i dont hear any beeps or anything and just that message pops up and the screen and then the screen turns off and my keyboard and mouse dont work either

Re: monitor help

Now that we have determined that it is in sleep mode and needs to be woke up, you should just be able to jiggle your mouse and wake the system up...but your mouse is not working.

Re: monitor help

ok, what exactly is the message saying..verbatim please Smiling

Re: monitor help

sounds like the computer is shutting down during POST. The msg you are getting is referring to the computer shutting down, not the monitor, you aren't even getting video. If you are getting beeps, count the beeps and let us know because those beeps or even an error code tells what is going on.  I'm interested in seeing the answers you have for foambrush's questions.

Re: monitor help

So you no longer get any signal to the monitor?

No POST screens, just blank?

Are you still hearing the computer start (HD spinning, beeps and such) or are you now hearing an odd beep signal instead of just one beep before windows starts?
