So my mom who barely knows anything about computers what so ever, gets mcaffe from some local guy who runs a PC repair shop. She told him that she just bought a new Mind you NEW compute. So he gives her mcaffe security suite 2007.. So she runs it and its starts to make her computer crash like crazy. I go over to her house to see whats up. Ends up the guy never asked her what she was running he must have been thnking XP and she has vista and it isnt compatible with vista! WHAT A TARD! What makes me mad is he didnt even ask her what she running on there . This PC wasnt even a week old and he basically screwed it up. My mom didnt know what was up she is clueless. So he fixed it and tried charging her 150! My dad went off on him and said he would now blacken his door from this point on. My mom ended up paying 100 but still she should have had to pay anything. So im wondering if this has happened to anyone else? And if so did it really do any damage to anything? SO far it seems running a bit slower . Do you think he could have bugged her anyway and how would I find out? Thanks guys and gals!

buggged? as in a virus or something equivalently malicious? let's hope not, and that perhaps the issue is just not resolved. so have her run a virus scan and update to check the system. start there if you haven't already.

Google registry cleaner and run it on moms computer ( I imagine mr computer guy only did an simple uninstall). The go to AVG or avast and download the free antivirus they both offer they work well on Vista and won't cause any problems

Re: mcaffe issue with vista?

I've no experience with NOD32, but I adore AVG Free, and recommend it all the time.  My free trial of Macafee that came with my PC left me with more problems than I can count, all sorts of nasties that I was only able to get rid of with help from GuG.  Since I've been using AVG, my computer's been runnign smoothly, until last night, but that's another issue entirely.
