Anyone played with this yet? I have not made it to an Apple Store so that I can explore what appears to be a really awesome laptop. Of course, I will not be purchasing it but I still want to play with it.
MacBook Air...
I recently went to my local apple store and i played with one of these things and i have to say, they are really coool. They have the two finger touch thingy that the iphone has, so u can pinch things to make them smaller and bigger, and other finger tricks. They also look really sweet. I would tottaly get one if i didnt already have two mac laptops lol...
I don't think I would ever want the MacBook air. I love apple, but I need a cd drive. I listen to a lot of music, watch my dvds, and play games that need cds on my MacBook, and I just can't imagine having to find another computer with a optic drive every time I need to use a disk. Plus, I can just see myself breaking such a thin computer.
While the MacBook air may be good for people who have access to the right computers, travel a lot, and don't break nice things like I do, I think I'll stick with my MacBook a little while longer.
The reviews that i've read are mostly good.. It's a great machine if you want a supa-thin notebook.. For me though, I think i would prefer the larger screen of the McBook Pro.
I'm still going to go rub my greasy fingers all over one as soon as they hit the Apple store..

i'm going to pick one up for "husband of mine's" birthday next month. i'm not anticipating a wait or any chaos one would have experienced when trying to get the iPhone!! have you heard of any backorder issues or such?
Is this chicken, what I have, or is this fish? I know it's tuna, but it… it says "Chicken of the Sea".
It looks great but does not come standard with an optic drive, and the couple of places I have seen report that the solid state HD's are uber expensive. Sometimes its best to be the second person on the block with new electronics that are on the bleeding edge.

i'm going to have to disagree w/you foamy. (um, can i do that and still keep my heart badge?!). the Air is for a particular type of user. someone that would travel most of the time, that is not a power user, and needs just mostly email/web access, and non CPU intensive applications - plus the excellent battery life is perfect for those type of users.
try using a 17" mac book pro in coach class of an airplane! or try lugging around a mac book pro for several hours after an 18-hour flight half way around the world. (that's about as much fun as taking a shot of tequila when you have the stomach flu!).

My meaning was that first generation hardware no matter who makes it has a certain amount of growing pains to go thru, and sometimes its better to let the other guy experience those growing pains. But if your hubby enjoys those quirks and the convenience is worth it than jump on board. So yes you may keep the heart (I don't give or take badges thats the job of the head cheerleader and kool aid drinker of the Mac club)
