Do any of my fellow GUG MAC users ever visit MACRumors? It is a really great site to keep up on. Today they are featuring a new system by a company named Pystar for $399 and get this....they are calling it "OpenMAC." I know. Shocker! I bet there are going to be some pretty ticked off folks at Apple today. The folks at Pystar are billing it as the cheaper and more expandable alternative to a true Apple Mac. IMHO, owning a MAC is like owning a Porsche...."there is no subsitute."

Anyway, just wondered if you MAC users heard of or read this story yet or even follow MACRumors. And, if you frequent MAC sites, what are your favorites?

 

*standard 2na disclaimer: i also own a pc. i'm not knocking them, i just prefer my mac as a primary and pc for the dirty work!*

i frequent MacRumors almost everyday...

but lately it's a lot of iPhone junk (i use blackberry), so not as often.

the site is a great resource for Mac news, and their Buyer's Guide is second to none.

you can also check out Think Secret or Apple Insider (i think this one got shut down awhile back..), but they're not as comprehensive as MacRumors methinks..

Hadn't heard about that but I agree...there is no substitute for a Mac.  You have to got to be kidding me! But if they can do it, more power to them.  Not to mention, I always tell people, you get what you pay for.

very interesting!  i wonder how long they will last or have them on the market. here are the specs for your $399:

  • For $399, you get a tower computer with the following specs:

    - 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    - 2GB of DDR2 667 memory
    - Integrated Intel GMA 950 Graphics
    - 20x DVD+/-R Drive
    - 4 USB Ports
    - 250GB 7200RPM Drive

 oh, they also claim to be leopard compatible "with a few patches!" *but of course*  but does offer leopard pre-installed. this is reportedly accomplished by using parts that are known to be compatible with Mac OS X Leopard, as well as the use of an EFI emulator.

i'm just waiting to see the supporting data! *show me*
