I've been having problems with low disk space on my pc for awhile. My main drive, Drive (C:) keeps getting low disk space for some reason.
I keep deleting files off that drive to make more space, but the next day, that space gets filled up somehow. A month ago I deleted a few programs off of that drive and I ended up have about 1 GB of space left on the C: Drive, but now I have only 176 MB!
I really don't know what is going on with my computer and I have no idea how I can fix this! Just a moment ago, the space kept getting really low (down to 80 MB) and now it's back to 176 MB. Can anyone please help me? Thanks!

Don't know what the specs are on your computer, but if you have less than one gig of space on your drive you either have a very small hard drive by modern standards or way too much downloaded video or something. If you seem to be "magically" losing disk space there must be some program that you run all the time that is creating large amounts of temp files. Maybe the problem is that you visit lots of web pages with large amounts of image and embedded video files. You should try using Firefox and setting it to automatically erase all the temp files and other private data that you don't feel like you need every time you close the program. I think the new IE will do this now too.
Probably you have to delete the files inside your temp folder, and use CCleaner to clean your computer. I guess it will help a bit. If not, get one bigger HD
I'm having the same problem, being a bittorrent goddess, video can fill up even a 120gb machine pretty quickly. I'm good about deleting, however - although it's snuck up on me this time and I can't figure out what's sucking up so much space.
However, this is the first (near) max-out I've had as a iPod (video) owner. It's almost full itself (60gb) and I know that I can delete video files on my hard drive after putting them on my iPod and they'll stay there til I delete them.
But what about music/audio files? I was told they have to stay on my computer otherwise they'll be deleted from my iPod when I update it. I have more video than music, but deleting music files would make a nice 20gb dent in my machine.
Is there an iTunes setting I am missing? Or do I have to keep these albums on my computer? Just find it odd since video sticks. I haven't even tried deleting an album to see, I don't want to risk it unless I know for sure it won't be taken off my iPod too.
I consider myself relatively savvy, but how iTunes and iPods use storage pretty much stumps me, being the newest toy I have.
To keep the music on your iPod and delete from the computer just change your iPod settings. Set the iPod to manually manage music instead of syncing. That will fix that. Just make sure you have a program for ripping the music back onto the HD in case something happens.

You should try taking one song, copy it to another part of your hard drive (or thumb drive if you have it) and rename it just in case. Then delete the origional, and plug in the IPOD to see what happens.
Honnestly I have always been mad about how an Ipod works, esspecially things like this.
I did it. I just decided to delete a few albums, the ones I own on CD. Others that DLed I'll eventually just back up and burn as a data disc. I updated my iPod and they're still on it!
I did have "only sync checked items" unchecked. So that must be why video wasn't affected, turns out music isn't either, unless I have another setting I'm not finding to make it work this way. I can say with confidence that how my iPod is set now, everything stays on it until I delete it.
Thanks for your help GuGees!
Without a doubt, take foambrush's advise and turn off system restore!!!
This a regular step in when I'm performing system maintenance, you wouldn't believe the amount of disk space you can get back.
After reboot, you can turn it back on again (recommended).

I had a problem like this at work one day. I would delete everything I can, and restart and the disk was full again. Try searching for large files (anything over a gig). I found a whole folder of THOUSANDS of random files, and every time I deleted them and restarted they would come back (I think the folder was something like 80 Gig's when all was said and done.). I assume it was a virus or soemthing, but since it was at work, I didn't pry into it, we just reimage machines like that.... it's not worth the time or money for us to try and actually "fix" it.... acording to the army at least, lol.
Just a shot in the dark, but do you use AOL to connect? Their anti-spyware program can create lots of logs which builds up over time. Happened to my parents.

Yes! At least I think so... I use AOL every now and then [I used to use it a lot], but I can still connect to the internet without connecting to AOL first. I think the anti-spyware still runs anyways. Is there a way to delete the logs?
My space keeps getting lower and lower. Right now it's at 60 MB and it goes down to 20 MB and back up to 60 again.
First,
If AOl spyware logs are the problem it will just keep happening. I fixed my parents computer three rimes before they let me remove the AOL software. Try to run Disk defragmenter and it will most likely fail because of not enough disk space. It will create a report of fragmented files it cannot remove. Save that report to the desktop and then open it. Look for the aol files. The report will give you their location and then you can delete them. An easier way would be to uninstall the AOL software and connect to the internet a different way. Try Firefox as your browser next time. You will still be able to access your AOL e-mail account by going to their website and clicking on mail and logging in. Since I switched my parents over they haven't had one problem. And they wanted to buy a whole new computer which I should have let them. Then I could have turned their's into a DVR. Damn, oh well. Good luck with your's.

Um................I think its time to invest in a larger HD, or an external HD or both until then you can turn off system restore and reduce the size of your pagefile and get some space back
