Anybody watch Lost? I was so obsessed with it the first two seasons. My obsession has cooled somewhat, however I wouldn't dare miss an episode. I find the story lines a little to mystical now. I liked it better when it was people trapped on an island. Every time I think they will explain something it seems more like a tease than an answer. Any way, I used to have an outlet for this and now I don't. Anyone else?
Lost
Man I swear they pulled it off again. That was the best episode of the year, maybe ever! I wonder how Locke died? I assume it was off the island while trying to convince Jack and company to return. I guess we'll get to see all those horrible things that Locke told Jack happened after he left. I was glad to see how Desmond was able to leave without being associated with the Oceanic 6. I really liked how selfless Sawyer has become. he would do anything for Hurley and of course for Freckles. My wife doesn't watch Lost (for some odd reason I still married her) and she walked in the room as Sawyer was coming out of the ocean and that sure got her attention.
So when Ben turned the donkey wheel it seems we got another EMF phenomenon like the one when Desmond turned the key at the hatch. So was pushing the button a way of preventing a large scale EMF event that would move the island and keep the Others from being able to find the island again if they left for some reason. I see the Island as possible being a bit of a sentient being (Jacob maybe, smoke monster) and maybe the island moved itself periodically to protect itself. Dharma comes in and finds a way to control that so that they can come and go without fear if the Island moving. I feel like I'm grasping at straws and I am confused as to why I continue to speculate on the plot.
I will say Ben kicked some serious @ss. When the elevator was coming down and he told Locke to return his weapon. Oh snap I knew it was on. I also really liked the fight scene between Sayid and the mercenary whatever his name was. Any Sayid action and I'm stoked.
So two long standing questions were answered. Who's in the casket: Locke. What was one of the experiments on the island: time travel, teleportation type stuff. Gnarly. Did I miss any other answers?
"I'm just like you only shorter."
I liked how they went back to last season's finale and the first flash-forward, and continued that same scene. I think they wanted to bring us up to real time, and maybe most of the new stuff will be from the flash-forwards on. It must have been annoying to write as if it were still 2004...
Any Ben action or Sayid action is always the highlight of the show. I think they are the best characters anyway.
I'm not too sure about all this back-to-the-island talk. All this time trying to get off the island and back home, did the writers get them there so fast that they realized, "Oops, we have 2 more seasons? What now?" It seems sort of redundant, but I'm sure they will pull it off in some cool way.
I really would have picked Desmond to die heroically. I'm glad he didn't. Jin's death was kinda stupid. At least jump in the water and give yourself a chance...

I have heard that this has been the plan for a while. Next season is dedicated to getting back to the island and other stuff. The final season will be their life on the island having returned. Now, how accurate is this info? I don't know for sure but the source was right on about how this season went.
I really would have picked Desmond to die heroically. I'm glad he didn't. Jin's death was kinda stupid. At least jump in the water and give yourself a chance...
But did Jin die? Did Michael die? Unless I see the person's corpse or see their life slip from their eyes I don't believe it. I think they love to play with the timeline and lead us to believe something happened that may not of happened. Maybe Jin and Michael made it out before it blew up, maybe not. I had heard a rumor that Jin is still on the island. And we know the island "won't let Michael die" or so we've seen. How many times can a gun be out to his head and misfire? That sneaky island!
"I'm just like you only shorter."
So'd you watch tonights episode? Where are we heading for the finale? If everybody gets dead now, it won't leave very much for next season, will it? Are they ever going to give us some real answers about some of the big underlying questions? I'd kinda like to see Ben kick some more ass for the finale.
And what's up w/ Claire and her sometimes dead Dad? They didn't touch on that at all this week. I'll be kinda disappointed if they change her character form who we all thought she was, mostly because it'll mean all the stuff w/ Charlie was faked. And ya know, he did die trying to figure a way to get her off the island...
Did I watch tonight's episode you ask. I would skip my own child's college graduation to see Lost! Ok, I kid. Yes I did watch it. It was great. I was glad to see Richard and the others reappear. That whole Claire and Christian thing was weird. She looked drugged up or something. Maybe she's a zombie. I don't think anyone has pulled a zombie theory out yet. So is it a coincidence that Christian Shepherd has been reborn? Religious undertones abound. But the producers swear it's not religious.
I have to think that not everyone will die. Since we know Jin dies maybe the boat blows up taking Desmond, Michael and Jin out all at once. I have to say that the falsh forwards have taken a lot of suspense out of the show. I mean Ben gave him self up but I know for a fact he gets out of it some how because of the flash forward. Hurley is in danger and Jack and Sawyer take of through the forest to rescue him. I wish they knew what I knew. He'll be fine ya see cause I've seen the flash forward. Oh well, still the best show on TV.
"I'm just like you only shorter."
We were talking about the most recent episode during a beer and baseball lunch today. My friend's girlfriend was interested in my opinion on things... all in all they weren't happy with the last installment cause they want some more answers, but I know it was all just build-up to a big season finale.
I agree that we'll have the traditional big cliff hanger for the season finale. They can't give us too much because there are two seasons left after this one. I think they will give us all of the answers by the time the show wraps. The writers know we want answers and they won't have a choice, unless they all Soprano's on us. But then again how do you end a show like Lost? Maybe in a couple years we'll get Lost the movie.
"I'm just like you only shorter."
These writers need a raise. I mean so much happened! Today at work we talked about Lost a lot. Stuff about Einstein's theory of relativity. Time differences between the island and the real world. My mind went numb.
So either Richard Alpert is time traveling or he is immortal. You decide. First he went and saw baby Locke, then childhood Locke, then we have seen him with adult Locke. All the while he never ages. Huh? So technically just leaving the island after a year you travel back in time almost a year. If it took 20 minutes for Desmond and Sayid to fly to the freighter and on the island they thought it had been a day, that's a 12 to 1 ratio. So one month in LA is one year on the island. I think I have this figured right. Anyway since the people on the island have lived a year they have aged a year regardless of how much time has past in the regular world. So is the island traveling (rotating) at a faster speed than the rest of the planet? By Einstein's theory that would explain the time discrepancy.
So back to Locke. He appears to have some above ordinary abilities but has stifled them for a desire to not be a nerd. I mean how many lockers can you locked in? So is this why the Island chose him? One theory is that the passengers of flight 815 were guided to the island by external forces. This episode showed there is truth to that theory. I mean three separate times some one from the island is in Lockes life guiding him to either his abilities that would later benefit the island or pushed into a walkabout that would end up wrecking him on the island.
Last but not least, how in the hell will Locke move the island?
"I'm just like you only shorter."
WOW. Great episode. First thing I liked was when Hurley, Sawyer and Locke were playing Risk? Hurley says that Australia is the key to everything. Is this a hint? They did fly out of Australia.
Sayid apparently meets his love Nadia again and marries her. I like how they shifted them timeline so we first saw Sayid in Ben's employment and then last night saw how that arrangement began.
I saw a screen cap of the pill bottle Jack had when he said he was taking an anti-biotic. I zoomed in on it and there is a word that ends in "cillin" so I guess he was telling the truth. I just assumed with his addictive personality it was pain pills. I mean there's not much booze on the island. Well not since Desmond drank it all.
So how about Alex taking a bullet to the head? That was crazy. I liked her character too. Oh well.
So when Ben goes into Charles Widmore's penthouse he talks again about the rules being changed. Is it possible that Ben and Charles had some sort of agreement as to the fight for the island. Like their own geneva convention. I'm going to assume it only had to deal with killing each other or immediate family. When Charles asks if Ben is there to kill him Ben replies that he can't kill him. Obviously Ben is capable of killing him. Ben does say that he will kill Penny. Eye for an eye.
When Ben goes down into the secret room and does something to bring the smoke monster he comes back dirty. The door he approaches to do whatever he did is covered in hieroglyphs. Something ancient perhaps? I would like the smoke monster more if it stopped forming the shape of a human hand. Just stay ambiguous and keep destroying things.
Man I love LOST!
"I'm just like you only shorter."
Yeah, that episode was pretty much non-stop action! I like Ben as a bad-ass, since the last couple episodes he's been beaten up on a bit. I was wondering if Widmore is somehow immortal or something, the way he said the island always was his and will be again.
I like a bunch of characters, both important and background, getting offed suddenly like that. It lets us know that the show isn't screwing around...
Not Carl! I really liked that kid. I'm blown away with how good the writing is this season. So the Oceanic six does include Aaron according to the previews for the April episodes. I wonder how long Walt stays underground? I don't know who to believe about the plane being in the under water trench. I think I have to stick with Ben being the bad guy although I don't think Mr Widmore is there for the best of reasons. He was a bad guy on the OC so maybe my thoughts are tainted. (Yes I watched season one of the OC, deal with it).
"I'm just like you only shorter."
I say yes, Aaron counts as one of the Oceanic six. Kate, Aaron, Jack, Sayid, Sun and Hurley. On another note. Jin's grave has the date of the crash as his date of death. this means Jin dies on the island. If he didn't then they couldn't have said he died the day of the crash. I liked the flashback running parallel to the flash forward. They had me going for a minute. So the question is, do we trust the captain of the freighter? Sayid gets a note under his saying don't trust the captain. Probably from Michael. Michael is getting his orders from Ben who obviously has a distaste for the freighter folks. I say he is probably some what trustworthy.

I dont think Aaron is counted. I think Michael is the 6th. I just got the new TV Guide and there is an article with the actor who plays Michael. I also think Jin is still alive on the island when Sun has their daughter. Who doesnt love a good love story?!
And I remember a point in this series when I HATED Juilet. Now I absolutely love her!
I'd hate to spend too much brain time trying to figure out who will die next. I'll just toss out Claire. Who knows. I think we have one episode left unless they get some more filmed. It seems like they would be making a bigger deal about the next episode if it was the last one though, so maybe I'm wrong. Anybody else know?
"I'm just like you only shorter."
Claire's a good guess. Kate gets Aaron somehow and she didn't seem too intent on going back as Jack did (from the last ep of season 3). Suppose we'll find out tonight though.
There's one episode left of this set, and there are 5-6 that were written post-writer's strike left to air starting April 24.
Also, I'm convinced Jin is alive but left on the island.
If anything goes wrong, GuG will be my constant.
Best episode yet. Daniel is amazing. The writers are earning their keep this season. If I haven't shared it yet here's a great place to see screen caps from Lost.

I know a couple of the main writers are also comic book writers, just thought I'd throw that in there cause I'm a long-time comic geek.
Hey P, I meant to ask you (and anyone else can chime in of course...): What do you think of the "enhanced" episodes? I like to call them the pop-up-video version. But usually I'm sitting here behind the comp while watching, so I really wish they made the pop-up-video noise... so I know when to look up. I think they're pretty cool, cause if I'm preoccupied w/ something else, I like the second chance to catch something I missed.
My daughter doesn't got to bed till 8:30 so I don't watch the enhanced episodes. Every one at work does watch them and they don't seem to have a better understanding afterwards so it seems to not be too important. It would be good to catch things you missed but that's what I use the blogspot website for. If I didn't have the kid on wednesdays I guess I would watch it. Do they show the enhanced wersion on ABC's website?
"I'm just like you only shorter."
I dunno about the website, I've never checked.
The most useful thing about them is some of the background info they will tell you. Like the book from a couple episodes ago; Locke hands it to Ben while he's a prisoner in his own basement- The enhanced episode will tell you a brief synopsis of what the book was about, because we all know it wasn't random. (Days later I can't remember what it was about off the top of my head, but you get the idea...) But mostly they just remind us of things that maybe we've forgotten, considering there is a lot going on in this show.
I think I also Tivo Lost, but I never have time to go back and watch what I record... if I really needed to see what I missed, I could that way though...
I have two favorite theories right now. First is that Jacob can be anything he wants to be. Jack's dad, the smoke monster or a black horse. The other favorite theory is that Michael is the man on the boat. When Ben told him which coordinates to take he said a boat would pick him up. He's probably stringing him along and manipulating him like he does everybody else to get them to do what he wants.

I agree with your theories. And I stand corrected about who gets off the island. Sawyer is not one of them it would appear. I read this weeks episode centers around Kate's trial once she is off the island. And I also read that we will see Walt or Michael (cant remember which or both) again before this 8 episode run is over...I wont even know what I'll do with myself if its better than last weeks episode. That was one of my favorites so far with the shocker at the end. I have never been a fan of the Michael storyline actually. I was glad when he disappeared.
They really pulled some old style Lost stuff on us. How about the island being 31 minutes behind the rest of the world? I never would have thought Sayid would work for Ben. Ben said something about protecting his (Sayid's) friends. That was one weird episode.
"I'm just like you only shorter."
I liked the foreshadowing: Sayid looks at Ben and says something about trust and "selling his soul". Well, I guess he did sell his soul when he took the 'job' from Ben. I'm thinking to protect whoever is still on the island? There's been a lot of clues that besides the six people we know that get off the island, probably a few stay behind.
Ok, I thought the last episode was a little boring. I know the main purpose was to introduce new characters. Out of the new characters I liked Miles the most. I think his ability to talk to dead people might help Jack out. Maybe help him find out Claire is his sister. I guess next week we get to find out one more of the Oceanic Six

I agree. It was a set up for whats to come though. I think there is a method to their madness. I enjoy when they add another question into the mix. Like the Dharma polar bear in the desert. I also wonder why Naomi would think they might find survivors when she was talking to the creepy "i'm from Oceanic, but I'm really not" dude.
Did you notice that Miles looks an awful like the Dharma man in the videos they have found on the island? Hmmmmm....
I think its pretty funny that everyone keeps beating the $#!+ out of Ben. He's tied up for the most part (Why did someone untie him, just so he could shoot someone?!) and everyone just keeps taking turns swinging at him. Though its pretty unrealistic that he's not spitting out teeth, and his eyes aren't swollen shut by now. He should be a mess.
So who are the Oceanic six? We know now that Kate, Jack and Hurley make it off the island. Who are the other three? I saw a screen shot from Jacob's cabin and it is Jack's dad in the rocking chair.
"I'm just like you only shorter."
I think the other 3 are Sawyer, Jin, and Sun. But it will probably be a long time before we find out. Damn writers strike...at least we get 8 episodes though! What is your guess?
Best line of Thursdays episode - "Jack, if its ok with you, I'd like to go with John" LOL I was cracking up!
I think the other 3 are Sawyer, Jin, and Sun. But it will probably be a long time before we find out. Damn writers strike...at least we get 8 episodes though! What is your guess?
Pretty good guess. I'd say Jin and Sun for sure because of the whole dying moms thing. Rose and Bernard will stay because of her cancer the island healed. Locke is a no brainer. Why would Claire stay on the island? Desmond is my third person who will get off only because Penny is who will rescue them in the end or at least that's what I think. Of course Desmond likes to run from things so who knows.
So if Charlie is really really really dead like they say, how come the other patient at Hurley's mental facility could see him. The guy came up to Hugo and told him about Charlie staring at him. Or so we're led to believe. Maybe the 'lawyer" from Oceanic Airlines was watching him from a car? Who knows. Speaking of the lawyer His mane is Matthew Abbadon and since the writers at Lost love anagrams his is "What Bad Boatmen". What does it mean, who knows?
"I'm just like you only shorter."
YAY! A LOST post! I am super excited to watch tomorrow. I think I read that there is some sort of special on tonight as well. I definitely need the recaps, its been off the air for so long that I have forgotten a lot, I am sure.
I didn't catch season 1, but I've been watching since season 2. I like it enough, but you're right about the explanations- we need some already!
One thing that will help me like or dislike a show is if I can get behind some characters, and Lost is a show that has done a good job with that. I'm still pissed about Ecko getting dead, I like that actor from his Oz days... which brings me back to explanations, what the hell is with that crazy smoke monster!?!?
Funny you mention this! I have been revisiting Oz on on demand and I HATE Adebisi. I like that actor as Ecko, but as Adebisi on Oz...I want to throw up! Did you notice that Augusta, the guy in the wheel chair, is the same actor who plays Michael on LOST?
Yeah, I love it when actors I like get new jobs on good shows. A lot of actors seem to be making the cable tv rounds (Oz, Sopranos, Dexter, Rome, Six feet Under, Deadwood, etc..). I was just re-watching the Deadwood series (my fav of all of them) and was pleasantly surprised to remember that the guy who played a FBI guy on Dexter Season 2 was also Wild Bill Hickcock on Deadwood.
But a lot of them are breaking thru into regular network tv shows and movies. Who woulda thought the guy who was a friggin killer Nazi on Oz would be in all the Spider-Man movies, and now in that new Juno movie? Hell, I don't want to see that Juno movie for anything, but it was nominated for a lot of awards; I'm just happy to see that actor in it.
So who do you think was in the casket? I think it was Michael. However upon reviewing screen shots of the obit that Jack was carrying it might be Locke. It has to be someone everyone hates. Those would be my top choices for hating. Also the name of the funeral home is an anagram for flash forward. Those tricky writers.
"I'm just like you only shorter."
I don't think it's Locke, I think somehow he'll still be used in the story (though after these events I don't know how)- through Jaccob, Locke is the only true threat left to Ben I thinkand who knows if the island and cure his paralyis, maybe it can do something more. We'll have to wait and see.
The name of the funeral home is "Hoffs Drawlar". The obit reads:
"The body of John Lantham of New York was found shortly after 4 am in the 4300 block of Grand Avenue.
Ted Worden, a doorman at the Tower Lofts complex, heard loud noises coming from the victim's loft.
Concerned for tenants' safety, he entered the loft and found the body hanging from a beam in the living room.
According to Jaime Ortiz, a police spokesman, the incident was deemed a suicide after medical tests. Latham (sic) is survived by one teenaged son.
Memorial services will be held at the Hoffs-Drawlar Funeral Home tomorrow evening.
The show takes place in 2004. The phone Jack is using in the flash forward is a black Motorola KRZR K1m that was released in 2006.
People believe that it's Michael in the casket cause the funeral home is located in a black neighborhood and the funeral director is black. Michael may have changed his name to avoid shame from not returning to find his "friends". The obit mentions the man was survived by a teen age son. Michael was the only one we know so far who has a teenage son. Of course in a flash back Kate meets a woman who was pregnant by Sawyer. Wonder how long ago that was?
"I'm just like you only shorter."
Yeah, that was the best episode ever! How about Jack's "flashbacks"? They were all glimpses into the future. At one point in his future flash he keeps saying go get his dad and if I'm drunker that him....SO is his Dad not dead in the future? Is he so messed up on pills and liquor that he doesn't remember? I was so glad they didn't kill Sayid. He's my favorite. I loved Sawyer killing Tom, although I liked Tom. It was just great to see Sawyer get revenge for Walt and for the night at the line they should never cross. Now since we have three seasons left, I'm gonna assume Ben is right about Naomi and her people being bad. How else would they fill up three seasons? Maybe the survivors and the others team up against the new people? Man it's gonna be a long summer.
"I'm just like you only shorter."
