I am: Voting for Obama

I ran across this link today and thought to myself that this was pretty cool.

http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1213900627/bctid1231030451

The link will open into an Adobe Flash Player 9 video and is titled, "The Make Anything Machine". Runtime is about two minutes.

Enjoy!

<Edit> It may be better to use this link instead. It has the flash player and more background on the project. You can actually buy the kit for $2400.

Errr...Automated Fabricator Robotic assembly lines already exist in modern Factories...lol

I mean, there aren't a bunch of old ladies knitting socks in a modern factory, a weaving robot actually does a faster and more accurate job at about a sock a every 20 seconds...and the micro circutry in modern computers hasen't been hand etched in ages.

Only real advantage is it would be a personal home one able to make anything as long as the right "goop" is there to build it from scratch...lol

Yesssssssss.....But I was talking more about the developmental stages of a product not the production level itself.  In the research and development side it would be a great tool to print (make) one to look at it VS building a prototype which can take time.  However yes in the manufacturing end yes you would use Robotics if needed.

LOL at the little old ladies knitting socks Laughing

Well it goes beyond that. There are people working on printing new organs for people from stem cells. One day we might not have to wait for a donor organ. If these new organs come from our own cells we might be able to do away with anti-rejection medicines which also increase the persons risk of developing skin cancers. We see transplant patients all the time for skin cancer. They'll have 5  or 6 every time they come in.

Cool. One of my Professors mentioned this idea of a 3d printer a few years ago, after he read about it somewhere. At the time when my Professor mentioned it, i didn't really believe it was possible, but wow!

Oh that is just too cool.  What a great invention.  I can see tons of uses at our company for that since we are a OEM company of a lot of parts for our trade industry.  This would be a great machine for product research.  I could see Foamy owning one of these since that's right up his ally (manufacturing).

I've seen these too. I actually looked into buying one but the wife got mad at me. She didn't see how it was practical. I mean she's right but I'd still love to try one out. Maybe when they get cheaper I can convince her I "need" it. Speaking of Star Trek, I read an article a while back about teleporting water molecules. It's only a matter of time. I just don't want to be victim  tester number one.
