Stay away from unstable releases. They are unstable for a reason. But for now, I'm off Ubuntu, because the new Feisty distro upgrade completely screwed my stable Edgy. So, off to Fedora Core 6, so I guess that will be my main expert area for a while.

For your reference, Fedora Core is Based off of Red Hat Linux, and Ubuntu is based off of Debain (and since I mentioned Sabayon, that is Gentoo based.)

Peace.

Re: Rule #1

I've been having fun with Fedora Core so far--I've always wanted to try Ubuntu, but didn't get around to it. My friend has it and she's always had problems with it (but she's not much of a Linux user).

I note that you posted this a long time ago. Got any updates for us? I'm not in love with Ubuntu to start with ... much prefer FC or Mandriva but, in all honesty, the last time I fired up Ubuntu was in a virtual machine and it could have been hampered by having Windows as the host OS.

Virtual machines are a good way to get a look at what an OS can do but not how well it does it.

Well... I would use Scientific Linux, it's Redhat Enterprise with all the support and updates just repackaged and delivered for free...
