Today I took mini me to see Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl movie. I thought she would enjoy the movie because she has 4 American Girl Collection dolls and 1 Hopscotch Hill American Girl Doll. She did like the movie and as a parent I would recommend taking your daughter, grand-daughter, niece, little sister, etc. The setting is during the great depression - - and I don't mind telling you ...it totally depressed me. Also made me cry. Ugh....I Know! Crying at a kid flick. Who'd of thought?! And how appropriate that this movie come out now while our economy is tanking and the housing market is so soft, yet volatile with foreclosures making history. I came away from the movie feeling absolutely thankful for everything I have. I don't think that is what the director was hoping for though. Maybe she was?

Okay, back to the movie review. In one word, Wholesome. The setting was right on, the props, clothing, era, etc. And there were prejudices discussed other than race, gender, or religion. It is worth watching a second time. However, I would love to get another parent's review on it. Oh, and while taking your little one, there were lots of girls who took their doll to the theatre with them. Just wanted to give you a heads-up on that note! Anyone see it yet?

This def. sounds like a good movie. I haven't seen it yet, but your description alone of the movie is all the motivation needed. Do you think minnie would like this movie? You've seen it so what do you think? Should I wait til she's a little older to understand or do you think that she would enjoy it at her age?

guess i better add this part also. - - i nearly lost site of what the movie is about and the "american girl" role in it. abigail breslin did a fantastic job in her role. just fantastic. as a child, i wonder how she feels about the great depression now and her world as she knows it since making the movie.

hmm. honestly? it deals with adult situations meaning financial issues, foreclosures, making ends meet by taking in borders, fathers leaving to find employment in hopes of sending for his family later - - but never ever returning. so, strong adult issues and the only reason my mini me understood is because of her maturity level at her age. i'm happyLaughing you asked. <edit: add> but it did really bother her. she still asks about it and is kind of freaking out because she does watch the news and is pretty tuned in with our current economic times.

Re: Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl (not a spoiler)

looks like i am not the only adult who felt this movie was timely, and a bit depressing given the current economy. the folks at msn's money blog captured it just perfectly in their review.  it delivers a strong message to parents and kids regarding financial issues at all economic levels.

Re: Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl (not a spoiler)

I'm glad to hear it is good. I don't have kids, but I wanted to see it because I used to love the American Girls. Kit was the last one added to the collection before I became too old to read the books. I will wait for the videos though. It would be strange to see a woman in their 20's sitting alone in the theater watching this movie.
