Go IMMEDIATELY to http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ for help. It is a computer security forum manned by all sorts of high end security consultants. The ehlp they provide is free, but you will need to register.

It will take a little time to work through, but be patient - the info there and the help that can be provided is incredible. It will be much easier than a reformat/reinstall.

I will warn you though - if you start reading it too much, the things you will learn will probably scare you. Its a big bad world, and the people who need the most help (ie those that have been through the wringer of being attacked the worst) end up there looking for help...so some of the things there represent the worst possible situations.

Good luck!

I am not sure how you have it configured but you could try downloading System Info. It checks all programs installed and a host of other info. I found some sneaky stuff running in the background through this program.

ETA:  I removed the file names just in case someone has it running on their pc and doesn't want it found.  If you need to you can pm and I will give you the default file names and hot-keys.

Hello,

I didn't know which forum this belonged in but thought its better here than in a new thread.

I've been wondering for a while about how you'd know if anyone had put a keylogger or anything like that on your computer? Would you be able to search for something like that? Otherwise how would you find out you had one?

I think being on here makes me kind of paranoid about my computer and being sent things over msn and things which i'm sure are all fine but it makes me wonder looking back how I would ever find out if I did have anything installed accidently.

I assume that a adware check may do it rather than a virus check? Are theres ones that wont be detected?

yes, there are ones that are undetectable. they can even sneek past virus programs. they can even not show up in your add/remove programs. and can hide from the task manager.

dont click on email attachments from people you dont know. (and hate to say it, but most people who do send you keyloggers are people you know, so be careful in that area) if someone sends you files on some chats, they can have keyloggers.

i recommend you study up on it to find out more. the forum and google can be your best friend sometimes.

 Hey,

Thanks they are one of those things that are kind of freaky as although I don't do anything that would interest anyone online I would hate it if someone was that curious to install one.

I'll deffinately read up as I think its a good thing to know about and I am really curious now lol

Re: Keylogger remover! Can't pay for it! Pleaseeeee help me!!!!

Did you try and do a "search" of the name of your keylogger. I would try that first. If it does show it then write down what folder it is in and then go in and delete that folder. If the folder is locked then you might need a unlocker program.

Also where did you get the program?  If you have the install CD then you may want to try that.  Insert the CD and see if there is a uninstall option.  If you purchased it online then go back to that web site and see if they have a uninstall option or directions on how to remove it.

Re: Keylogger remover! Can't pay for it! Pleaseeeee help me!!!!

I had ann ex put a keylogger on my computer years ago(2000-2001). I had a compaq presario notebook then which had 128 megabytes of ram(like I said, long time ago) and of those 96 were bad. Luckily, before I took out the bad ram myself and replaced it(which he was supposed to do) I came across a file which was titled logfile.log(by by sheer chance, so even when i think my luck is bad I try to remember how much worse it could have been). I was looking for a picture I had scanned and saved on my hard drive and for some reason I had forgotten the name of it. So I searched the caption "Kristen's wedding" through search files or folders in the start menu and I got 3 file names. When I opened logfile.log it was a text file and I found a piece of an emai I had sent to my mother about the wedding over a year before. So I got a friend who was a programmer to come look at it and as we read the rest of the contents of that file we found passwords and other keystrokes that were sent out over the internet. Also within that file was the name of the program(I guess because the ex had to register it over the internet after adding it to my computer). I looked it up on the web and the only way to get rid of it was to reinstall my hard drive. The name of that program was called SKINas, Stealth Interceptor Auto Sender. How you found out it was on your computer was to search files or folders for SKINas, and if it was found the screen would go blank and stop the search. This fact was helpful because later, he hacked into my computer by sending an email to my mother which she forwarded to me. I did not even open it!!! A couple of weeks later i was signed into Yahoo Messenger and I had to leave to meet some people for dinner and my email was taking forever to open so I left my computer to work on tat task wile I was out. I came home 2 hours later and there was a message on my computer that said I could not read my email because I was logged in on another computer. Who says Yahoo Mail sucks? There could only be one person in my mail, the ex!!! I had been out of work for 2 weeks recuperating from foot surgery, so no I wasn't logged in somewhere else and just forgot. I performed my trusty search for SKINas, and what do you know, it was on there again. I had to reinstall my hard drive again!! This time I sent jerkoff an email to his formal address(he had different email addresses for each "girlfriend") that his wife was able to log into and told him he better not put that crap on my computer again or I would send copies of emails I had read when he still used the password that was in my logfile.log file to that address so his wife could see what he was up to. He hasn't bothered me since. Hope this helps.
