After looking through the cellphone hacks section i noticed a lack of stuff on iphone and it has pained me.... so much so that i am going to make it my mission to drop some knowledge.
Step 1: go to ziphone.org and download application
step 2: plug in phone to computer and back up
step 3: run ziphone and select your desired unlock (either just jailbreak or unlock for other carriers)
step 4: watch as your iphone goes matrix
step 5: wait till iphone is ready and open installer.app which is on your springboard now
step 6: you will need to install these apps for installer to work : community sources, installer, BSD subsystem, and summerboard (this one is optional but if you want to change the look of your old plain iphone u need this)

Oh, be careful NOT to upgrade to firmware 2.0! It hasn't been fully jailbroken yet!

I have had my phone jailbroken prior, shame on me, I did the update and now my phone is effed. Does anyone know how to get it back to normal?

I did not know about not updating the phone

Ok, so I just got my hands on my 1st gen iPhone. It's jailbroken. 1.1.4. There is an installer app icon. Do I have to connect to the interweb from my iPhone to install third party apps or can I download them to my pc and install from there? The reason I ask is I don't have a data plan. I'm considering adding one. I want to add snapture for sure. I'd also like to change my background like you did.

Yes you have to be connected to the internet through your phone to download the apps. Why don't you try to find an open wifi connection so it's free?

What I would recommend if you want to customize your phone is the customize app (duh!) and boss prefs so you can turn off the option that it connects automatically to edge (saved me lots of $$)

I had lunch at Panera and hopped on their wifi and added a couple apps. I added the faux tetris, CameraPro, and Showtime video recorder. I wish I had more time. There was so much to look through and I didn't even find the photo program I wanted (Snapture). Oh well, plenty of tmie to play still. So far after the whole day me Edge usage hasn't budged but I do have the E symbol in the top left hand side of the screen. This phone kicks so much butt.

Don't worry P Smiling It takes a little time to figure it all out, but once you do, I assure you you'll absolutely love it!!

Oh and like I said in a post below..I reccomend this site for both newbies & experts: Apple iPhone School

Friend of mine found it and i must say it has helped me a lot in my learing process.

I'm a fast learner so it won't take too long. Earlier at Panera I was eating, playing with my iphone and talking to my wife so my attention was a little divided. I just wish a neighbor had an unsecured wireless connection. Oh well we have wifi at work so I can play on lunch. I have already bookmarked that website plus numerous others. I should add that I love how it shows text messages as a running conversation.

I forgot to mention that I found a free program for making iPhone ringtones. it adds them straight into iTunes. Plug in your phone and drag them to the phone and they will be waiting for you when you disconnect from iTunes.

edit* It seems like "sneeky pooper" just popped up on my available connections. I just came inside from a decent session of adding new apps. Woohoo.

I've been worried about connecting to Edge without my knowing.I don't think it is though. I'm keeping an eye on it. I've considered adding a data plan just cause. I'll make my way over to my sister's and mooch off here wi fi. Oh, 2.0 has been cracked. It was cracked yesterday within a couple hours of coming out. The tool to jailbreak 2.0 iPhones will be out soon. Or so they say. I read this on Gizmodo.

You can check in the menu "usage" if you have sent/recieved any data through edge. Plus you'll see a little "E" on your main screen if it's currently connected.

I read on my fav iphone site that it has been partially cracked..but not really...I dunno, fact is I won't be upgrading anytime soon Smiling

Have fun discovering the wonderful world of the installer...I have tons of useless (but fun!) apps on my phone. It's totally addicting.

FairyGirl what site do you use to check on iphone updates?

I accidentally restored my iphone yesterday, and now I have the apps application. I want my hacked phone back Sad ! I figure if they are going to have the 2.0 almost ready I will just wait, but all the apps from itunes kinda suck or you have to pay $9.00 for a lot of the games. Not worth it!

I check Apple iPhone School almost daily! They also do great reviews of all the newest apps, etc. If you want to re-jailbreak your iphone and get back the 1.1.4 firmware they have a step-by-step instruction on how to do so.

There is no possible way this will brick your phone it is 100% safe and if anything happens you have a backup. You can change the look of your springboard to way cooler things, you can have games, turn your iphone into a controller for your computer, IM chat client, guitar hero on the iphone, all sorts of cool things from a iphone level to homework helpers.

with an application in the installer app your iphone becomes your wirelss mouse its called touchpad pro. its as great as it sounds believe me
