My brother is occasionally the most annoying person in the world. He has re-done my computer which is great because it was dying, but he's given me a tiny C drive and two massive secondary drives. He's moved a large 40gig music folder from the C drive to one of the other ones, and now iTunes can't find or recognise a lot of my music. Adding the folder back in its new position adss the music to my library, but my playlists won't work as they are looking for the files in the wrong place.

Anything I can do without manually adding back over 40gig of music each time iTunes picks a song that isn't in the right place any more?

Re: iTunes help?

point iTunes to the main iTunes music folder, which is the one that was removed from your "C" drive originally. the iTunes configuration file may remember where the others are located, if not, then you will have to import the other music.

now, once all of the music has been pointed back to iTunes, the play list will work fine. so DO NOT delete the play list.

secondarily what i recommend, is to in the Settings, "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" is checked. and that will keep all of your music, movies, podcasts, etc. in one directory.

Re: iTunes help?

okay, hold down the SHIFT key while you open iTunes and it will bring up a "Choose library" window. select "Choose Library" and point iTunes to where your new music folder is located.

or, click here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447

Re: iTunes help?

Before I do this - my music is in several folders across three different drives. If I point iTunes to the missing folder will it then still be able to see the music on the other drives?

Thank you!!!

Re: iTunes help?

Pick your biggest drive and create a folder called iTunes. Cut and paste all your music into this folder. Try to keep it all in one folder for your own sanity.

Re: iTunes help?

Not yet :/

The original setout was half my music and the iTunes program files on the C drive, and half my music on the F drive. Now, iTunes and half my music is on the new F drive and the other half on the G drive. I can get iTunes to point to one or the other, but not both :/

Re: iTunes help?

Well when you figure it out please post how.  I have the same problem but that has been put on the back burner of things to figure out.  I got a second HD (1TB) just before the holidays (filled my other one).  I then re organized everything over to the new drive (from C to H).  iTunes is the only thing giving me issues still. Embarassed

Re: iTunes help?

Will do! The official iTunes stance is that it can't be done, but I'm sure there must be some way...

Re: iTunes help?

try my second suggestion (reply) below. this happened to me and my husband actually did the work through to regain success with having it point and consolidate correctly. it should work for you.

Re: iTunes help?

The importing one? When I tried that it re-added the music to my library, but as a double file - one working, one not. And the not-working one was in the playlists.
